He was a five-star wide receiver recruit who ranked as the No. 14 overall player and the No. 2 overall wide receiver in the 2022 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. Burden made an instant impact as a freshman at Missouri scoring nine total touchdowns. In 2023, he became the top target of Missouri’s passing game, recording over 1,200 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, earning First Team All-SEC honors. However, Burden’s production took a step back in 2024 where he was just second on the team in receiving yards with 676 yards, but along with eight total touchdowns he was still able to earn First Team All-SEC honors in his junior season.

Strengths:

Burden is a remarkable athlete. He has quick feet, good acceleration, and great change-of-direction ability. Burden is a huge threat with the ball in his hands after the catch. He is a fast and super elusive runner who is adept at forcing missed tackles, and he runs strong with great contact balance. Burden is also an intelligent runner who has good vision and instincts in the open field.

Burden can consistently create separation at all levels of the field. He is quick off the line of scrimmage and particularly excels at creating separation on short routes. Burden is a reliable pass catcher who tracks the ball well and is a solid contested catch threat for his size. He also adds value as a potential special teams contributor. He had 24 punt returns in college with a punt return touchdown and an average of over 10 yards per punt return.

Weaknesses:

Burden has solid hands, though he does have occasional drops. He is not the biggest receiver and doesn’t have a huge catch radius. Longer and more physical corners could give Burden some trouble in the NFL. While Burden can play a bit outside, he is primarily a slot receiver and did not face much press coverage in college.

Burden is also a sub-par run blocker. He is not particularly strong at the point of attack and doesn’t always consistently block with high effort. Burden is still developing as a route runner. While he is a fairly smooth route runner, he did not run a diverse route tree at Missouri.

Potential Team Fits:

Cincinnati Bengals

Denver Broncos

Washington Commanders

NFL Projection:

Burden is a top-tier-big-play threat who is arguably the best run after the catch wide receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft. His athleticism, playmaking ability and style of play have a lot of potential in the right offense. Burden could thrive with a creative playcaller who does a good job at giving him opportunities with the ball in his hands in space. He will need to continue to develop as a route runner to reach his full potential but can be a No. 1 receiver in an offense in the NFL.

Prospect Grade:

Late First Round

Main Photo: Denny Medley – Imagn Images

Luther Burden III scouting report and film analysis of the dynamic 2025 NFL Draft wide receiver prospect from Missouri, an electric playmaker

[1647
32605,32932,33006
post-219911","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-draft","tag-2025-nfl-draft","tag-luther-burden-iii","tag-missouri-tigers
["GET
