His first two years did not go as planned, from suspensions to injuries and inconsistent play. 2024 was the year that Williams broke out and established himself as a true WR2 in a Detroit Lions offense that was among the best in the NFL. Jameson Williams’ dynasty outlook is the most exciting it’s been since he was drafted.

Jameson Williams: Dynasty Outlook for Speedy Lions Receiver

Current Production

In 2023, Williams was just a deep threat. He was a one-trick pony with little else to his game. However, this was not the case in 2024. While his straight-line speed and long ball threat are still his most significant assets, he added a new dimension to his game. The Lions used him on wide receiver screens and many more short receptions. He caught 58 passes for 1,001 yards, up from 24 and 354 in 2023.

Fantasy-wise, he did not completely erase the boom-or-bust tag, as he had five games with under 10 fantasy points, but he took a massive step forward. Williams also became a more consistent touchdown threat, scoring seven receiving touchdowns and one rushing. He finished as the WR22 despite missing two games due to a suspension.

Williams Dynasty Price

KeepTradeCut has Williams as the WR25 and 69th-ranked player overall. His ranking soared from WR47 after he received 20 targets in his first two games of the season. A few players ranked near Williams include Chris Olave, D.J. Moore, and Josh Jacobs. Despite being drafted in 2022, Williams is only 23, so the best is yet to come.

It’s difficult to gauge, but Williams is worth a late first-round pick. He showed a lot of growth this season, and his potential is high, but don’t expect him to be a fantasy WR1.

Williams Dynasty Outlook

As good as Williams was in 2024, as long as Amon-Ra St. Brown is in Detroit, he won’t be the best receiver on the team. Fifty-eight receptions from 91 targets isn’t ideal, but that number is skewed by the number of deep passes that target him. Williams only had three drops in 2024, significantly lowering his drop percentage from the previous two seasons.

Another concern is that offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has left Detroit. Under his tutelage, the Lions offense became arguably the league’s best, and Williams played a huge role in that. However, the offensive personnel, including other players such as Jahmyr Gibbs, St. Brown, and Sam LaPorta, are too talented to make big numbers. Williams has time on his side and is part of a phenomenal offense, two major pluses for dynasty.

What to Do With Jameson Williams in Dynasty Leagues

It’s not an easy choice. Although he’s very talented, and there are many benefits to playing in Detroit, there’s an argument to be made to sell Williams now. While the offense will still be great, it’ll be challenging for the Lions to match their numbers from 2024. There also might not be enough room for all the aforementioned players to top 15-20 in their positions. You may want to sell Williams at his current value point for another player who could end up as his team’s RB1 or WR1.

Main Photo: Kimberly P.
