Initially a dual-threat quarterback, he transitioned to running back once he joined the UC Davis program. His first action came in the spring of 2021, the replacement games for the canceled COVID-19 2020 season. He tallied a respectable 323 yards and four scores on 55 carries. He saw time in the rushing, receiving, and returning game in 2021. In that season he accumulated 253 rushing yards, 241 receiving yards, 688 kick return yards, and five touchdowns.

He was in a similar role for the entirety of the 2022 season, staying effective in all three facets. Larison ran for 485 yards, racked up 341 yards through the air, had 435 return yards, and six total TDs. He was much more of a running threat than receiving in 2023, crossing the 1,000 rushing yards mark for the first time with less than 200 receiving yards, and 13 of his 15 touchdowns on the ground. 2024 was when he put it all together in both ways. His spectacular season saw him eclipse 2,000 all-purpose yards and 23 total TDs.

Accolades:

First Team All-Big Sky (2024)

First Team All-American (2024)

First Team All-American (2023)

Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year (2023)

First Team All-Big Sky (2023)

First Team All-Big Sky (2022)

Freshman All-American (2021)

Second Team All-Big Sky (2021)

Strengths/Pros:

As a runner, Larison is patient enough to wait out late-opening holes and hit them when needed. His backfield vision is solid and he has great movement timing in smaller gaps. It lets him get skinny and easily work through holes, and he has the downfield vision to make subtle moves to great extra space. He re-establishes his feet well when he plants and hard cuts, getting himself back into his base and working vertically. He plays bigger than his frame when running, with good contact balance and a natural fight through contact.

His skills shine in the receiving game, and he is one of the most natural receiving backs in recent memory. Larison has a quick first step out of the backfield and is a comfortable route runner in space. He’s a smooth inside cutter on his routes, working through coverages well and generating early separation after stems. His hands are stable and consistent, and he transitions to a runner easily and controls his body well. He’s a willing pass blocker in the backfield and times chip blocks well against free blitzers.

Weaknesses/Cons:

Larison’s deficiencies as a player mostly come through how much his frame and athleticism cap his ceiling. His speed is generally average and he won’t threaten defenses as a breakaway runner often. He has some issues with his burst and compact lateral running as well. His body tends to drag when he tries to bounce runs outside, leaving him much more vulnerable to arm tackles. While he can be effective working between the tackles at points, his inconsistency in doing so is very visible against better defenses.

He needs to develop a deeper arsenal of moves after the catch, working decently through physicality but rarely fully evading defenders. Larison’s physicality as a runner often comes in short spurts and against off-balance defenders instead of overpowering them. He also runs into problems when working through contact as a route runner. His fumbling issues are notable too, and he hasn’t shown enough overall high-level production against top-end talent to erase doubts surrounding his transition to the NFL.

Potential Team Fits:

Dallas Cowboys

Denver Broncos

New England Patriots

NFL Projection:

Larison doesn’t project as a true bell-cow back in the NFL, but he could create a nice role as a true third-down weapon. His smoothness and comfortability as a receiver are off the charts and his running patience and vision are solid. He’s versatile enough and has the tools to succeed at a high level in limited action. He projects best in a heavy RPO/play action system and could quickly become a valuable offensive piece.

Prospect Grade:

Early To Mid 5th Round

Film Exposures:

2024 vs. California

2024 vs. Eastern Washington

2024 vs. Cal Poly

Main Photo: Darren Yamashita – Imagn Images

Overview And Film Analysis Of 2025 NFL Draft Prospect And UC Davis Lan Larison, A Dangerous Dual Threat Back.

[1647
32605,33337,27083,33339,33338
post-219199","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-draft","tag-2025-nfl-draft","tag-lan-larison","tag-scouting-report","tag-uc-davis-aggies","tag-uc-davis-football
["GET
