Nearly 70% of Gesicki’s snaps came lined up in the slot and fewer than 10% were in-line. He there to catch the ball.”

It’s no secret that the Colts need a major upgrade at the tight end position. With that said, Mike Gesicki would be a great pickup. Should the Colts go and get him this spring?

Mike Gesicki Listed as an Underrated Free Agent Option for the Colts

His Career Thus Far

Mike Gesicki played collegiately at Penn State University. During his four-year career with the Nittany Lions, he caught 129 passes for 1,481 yards and 15 touchdowns.

The Miami Dolphins took Gesicki in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He had 22 receptions for 202 yards during his rookie year. 2021 was the best season of his career. That year, he had 73 receptions and 780 receiving yards, both career-highs.

After spending his first five years in Miami, Mike Gesicki signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots in 2023. He caught 29 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns during his lone season in New England.

Gesicki signed a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024. Catching passes from Joe Burrow this past season, he recorded 65 receptions for 665 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Should the Colts Sign Him?

In 2024, Indy’s tight end room was arguably the worst in the entire NFL. And Colts fans know that’s an understatement.

Last season, four tight ends played for the Colts: Kylen Granson, Mo Alie-Cox, Drew Ogletree, and Will Mallory. The unit combined for just 39 catches for 467 yards, and two touchdowns. Granson led the way with 14 receptions for 182 yards and zero touchdowns. Those certainly aren’t pretty stats.

Mike Gesicki isn’t a superstar by any stretch of the imagination. But he’d be a solid addition to the Colts roster in 2025.

Speaking of tight ends out of Penn State, the Colts should also take Tyler Warren in this April’s NFL Draft. Warren is widely considered the best tight-end prospect in the draft and could turn out to be a star.

The Colts need to rebuild their tight end room this offseason. Adding Gesicki and Warren would be a step in the right direction, no doubt about it.

Indianapolis quarterback Anthony Richardson hasn’t had a C.J. Stroud-type career thus far. In other words, he hasn’t led the team to the playoffs his first two seasons and had a major impact. Completing less than 48 percent of his passes last season, Richardson needs all the pass-catching help he can get to succeed. Having a go-to tight end like Mike Gesicki could help improve Richardson’s completion percentage in 2025. So if the Colts get the opportunity to sign Gesicki, they should make it happen.

Main Photo: Sam Greene – Imagn Images

Tight end Mike Gesicki, who spent last season with the Cincinnati Bengals, was listed as an underrated free agent option the Colts.

[12,54
7800,3605
post-217085","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colts","category-editorials","tag-indianapolis-colts-news","tag-mike-gesicki
["GET
