After a six-year tenure with Head Coach <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/ReidAn20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andy Reid<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 following him from the Philadelphia Eagles &#8211; \u00a0Maclin will move on from being Reid\u2019s number one wide receiver.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A surprise: The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Chiefs?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Chiefs<\/a> released WR Jeremy Maclin. He had a $12.4M cap hit&#8230; and $7M in dead money.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RapSheet\/status\/870786573264187394?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">June 2, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Kansas City Chiefs Release Jeremy Maclin<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Maclin completed 2015 with 1,088 yards, but injuries and a slow offensive start to 2016 resulted in only 12 games and 44 receptions. Although he was used as a feature receiver, Maclin only had six games where his stat line met the definition most look for in a wide receiver of his caliber. All six of those games came in 2015, and thus set a narrative for 2017 where Maclin was going to re-connect with quarterback <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=SmitAl03,SmitAl02&amp;search=Alex+Smith&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Smith<\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That story will never be. Chiefs General Manager <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DorsJo20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Dorsey<\/a><\/strong> stated, <em>\u201cI\u2019d like to thank Jeremy for his effort and dedication the past two season. I have great respect for all players which makes decisions like these very difficult, but we felt it was in the best interest of our club moving forward to part ways at this time. We wish Jeremy the best as he continues in his career.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Coach Andy Reid also chimed in, <em>\u201cThese decisions are never easy, especially with a player like Jeremy who I\u2019ve grown close with on and off the football field over the years. I have a lot of respect for the way he goes about his business and how he handles himself as a professional. I wish him the best of luck moving forward.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Chiefs will save $10 million off of the cap by cutting Jeremy Maclin.
