Out of the twelve running backs participating at the Senior Bowl, only two are shorter than Tuten. However, he is in the middle of the pack for weight, so he has a muscular build.

Background:

Tuten spent the first two years of his collegiate career at North Carolina A&T. He did not play much in his freshman year, only recording 37 carries and ten receptions. However, he broke out in his sophomore year, carrying the ball 208 times for 1,363 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. Through the air, he had 31 receptions for 342 yards and added four touchdowns.

After that great year, he transferred to Virginia Tech and was a two-year starter for the Hokies. In his first season at VT, he had 173 carries for 863 rushing yards and ten touchdowns. During his senior year, he had 183 carries for 1,159 yards and fifteen touchdowns. He had 27 and 23 receptions for 239 and 81 yards, respectively, in those two seasons.

Tuten was also used as a kick returner in his first seasons with N.C. and Virginia Tech; however, he only had three kick returns in his senior season. Overall, Tuten has had a very successful collegiate career, but he has already had over 600 touches to his name.

Biggest Shrine Bowl Offensive Risers

Strengths/Pros:

The most important strength when it comes to Tuten is that he is a powerful runner. He will run through defenders. Tuten does not go down on first contact; it takes multiple defenders to take him to the ground. He will drag defenders with him and earn extra yards.

Another pro when it comes to Tuten is that he has great speed and agility. He hits the gap with a burst of speed and will run past guys in space. Tuten works best when he is in space and can run by defenders and make them miss.

Other NFL Draft Scouting Reports

Weaknesses/Cons:

The first weakness for Tuten is that he is not a big running back. He is short and has average weight. However, he runs bigger than he is.

Tuten’s biggest weakness is that he will struggle to be a third-down back. He has limited receptions in his career, only averaging two per game in his two seasons with Virginia Tech. Although this is not terrible, he is also a poor pass protector. He is a liability in obvious passing downs, which will limit his playing time.

Another weakness is that he fumbled four times in 2024, although only one was a lost fumble. Young players who have ball security concerns will struggle to see the field.

Prospect Grade and Potential Team Fits:

Tuten projects to be a Day 3 guy in the 2025 NFL Draft with how stacked the running back class is this year. He will fit well with a team that needs running back depth such as the Patriots and the Vikings.

Dynasty Outlook

Tuten will be a solid early-down runner for an NFL team. He probably will not be a starter in his first season in the league, but he can be a solid contributor to a committee backfield. Until we know what team he gets drafted to, it is hard to know what his full workload will be, but he is a powerful runner, and teams will give him a chance to go out there and break tackles.

The biggest downside to his dynasty outlook is his lack of receptions. Running backs that get limited touches are boosted by their catches in PPR leagues. Tuten will not be on the field much on obvious passing downs, meaning he will not pick up the easy check-down PPR points. This will hurt his draft stock in rookie dynasty drafts this summer. Tuten will be a late-round dynasty rookie draft pick who if he is in the right system, could see plenty of opportunities on the ground to be productive, but the limited pass-catching severely hurts his ceiling.

Main Photo: Vasha Hunt – Imagn Images

Bhayshul Tuten is a potential sleeper RB in the 2025 Draft.
