The athletic tight end found himself as the number-one option in the Miami Dolphins offense at times near the end of the season. Despite being a waiver wire pickup in most redraft leagues, he finished as the TE4 in total points. Can Smith be even better in 2025 with a full year of Tua Tagovailoa? This is Smith’s dynasty outlook.

Jonnu Smith: Dynasty Outlook for Dolphins Tight End

Current Production

The Dolphins did not utilize Smith much at the beginning of the season. He did not play more than 50% of snaps in a game until Week 8, but once Smith got involved more, nobody could stop him. He was the TE1 from Week 7 onwards, including four games with over 20 fantasy points.

Smith set franchise records for receptions and yards by a tight end in a season with 88 and 884, respectively. He also added eight touchdowns, seven of which came in the final eight weeks. Smith became a safety blanket for Tagovailoa, having four games with more than ten targets. His speed and power gave the Dolphins a reliable option across the middle of the field. He had more receiving yards than Jaylen Waddle and only 75 less than Tyreek Hill.

Smith Dynasty Price

After starting the season as the TE37, Smith has moved up to TE15 in dynasty on KeepTradeCut. Smith would likely be more of a short-term acquisition, as he is approaching 30, so tread cautiously. Smith is a great option if you’re looking for a tight end for 2025. Given his age and position, his asking price wouldn’t be too high.

On Fantasycalc, most trades, including Smith, are large package deals, making his price difficult to judge. It’ll depend on team structure, but Smith is usually worth a late second-round pick. He can thrive in the Dolphins offense, and this year gave everyone a glimpse of what he can do.

Smith Dynasty Outlook

Smith set career highs in every major metric in 2024. He had more than enough good games to prove that it was no fluke, and the Dolphins will have him highly involved from the get-go next season. The concerns are that once his athleticism starts to wane, he won’t be nearly as effective. This is the case with many receivers and running backs once they cross 30.

The difference is that Smith is a tight end, and tight ends have been known to perform at older ages. As Hill’s future with the Dolphins is uncertain, Smith could see even more usage in 2025. The Dolphins offense is still excellent when Tagovailoa plays, and Smith being a massive part of that offense gives him fantasy relevance. Smith should be able to produce at peak performance for at least the next two seasons.

What to Do With Jonnu Smith in Dynasty Leagues

Keep Smith for 2025. He’ll be a top-seven tight end in the draft in redraft leagues. The tight end pool is relatively shallow already, so owning a player like Smith, who is coming off a career season, bodes well. If you don’t believe that Smith can continue this production, wait for more news about the Dolphins’ offseason moves and then send him away.

Main Photo: Sam Navarro-Imagn Images

Jonnu Smith had the best season of his career in 2024.
