Player Background:<\/span><\/h3>\n

Quinn Ewers was born in San Antonio before moving to Southlake as a youth. Famously, Ewers received a scholarship offer from then-North Texas OC Graham Harrell as a sixth grader.<\/span><\/p>\n

He later played for Carroll Senior High School, garnering the No. 1 overall recruit mantle as a senior. Ewers is a founding father of the NIL era<\/a> in college football, rising to national prominence as a five-star quarterback for Ohio State University.<\/span><\/p>\n

While things didn\u2019t go as planned for Ewers in Columbus, he transferred back home to Texas following the 2021 redshirt campaign and became the program\u2019s starting quarterback for the past three seasons.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Austin, the highly-coveted prospect realized his potential by netting 36 career starts with Texas, including back-to-back College Football Playoff berths. Ewers\u2019 27 wins overtook Colt McCoy for the most in school history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Strengths\/Pros:<\/span><\/h3>\n

The easiest selling point for Ewers as an NFL Draft prospect is his extensive experience as a starting quarterback. With the recent NFL success of longtime college starters like Bo Nix<\/a>, franchises will prioritize a battle-worn signal-caller.<\/span><\/p>\n

Along with experience, Ewers possesses a quick release and a bevy of creative arm angles. He lacks elite arm strength downfield, but the Texas star shows plenty of zip on short-to-intermediate passes.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the pocket is clean, Ewers is surgical over the middle of the field. He keeps a solid base and exhibits superb ball placement on throws less than 20 yards downfield.<\/span><\/p>\n

To Ewers\u2019 credit, he\u2019s come up big in clutch moments for Texas, including the fabled 4th-and-13 completion vs. Arizona State in the College Football Playoffs. He\u2019s a leader and has proven to be coachable.<\/span><\/p>\n

Weaknesses\/Cons:<\/span><\/h3>\n

Ewers is an absolute disaster when the pocket isn\u2019t spotless. He cannot sense where the pressure is coming from, oftentimes getting blown up on the blindside or evading the pocket far too early when he feels it narrowing.<\/span><\/p>\n

He fails to consistently hit passes on the run. As his footwork falters, so does his accuracy to all levels of the field. Ewers largely benefited from having stacked weapons at Texas, as they would typically make up for his deficiencies downfield.<\/span><\/p>\n

While Ewers can throw a fastball in shorter distances, his arm strength is far below average and will be exposed by NFL defenses. His tape is littered with underthrow after underthrow.<\/span><\/p>\n

Considering Ewers lacks elite physical traits, he must play a clean brand of football to succeed at the next level \u2014 something he did not do at Texas. The 21-year-old threw 12 interceptions and coughed up 10 fumbles in 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n

He\u2019s a well-liked teammate and one of the most accomplished collegiate quarterbacks in recent years.
