Will his next stop be with the Indianapolis Colts?

About four or five years ago, Wilson was hands-down one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks. That’s not the case, though, nowadays. However, he’s still a solid veteran.

Wilson began this season injured. He then replaced Justin Fields as the starter and eventually led the Pittsburgh Steelers to the playoffs. Unfortunately for the Steelers, they lost 28-14 to the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round.

It’s unclear who Pittsburgh’s starting quarterback will be in 2025. Wilson and Fields will both be free agents in March. Fellow free agent Sam Darnold would be a good fit for the Steelers.

If Darnold, Aaron Rodgers or someone else takes their talents to Pittsburgh this offseason, Wilson could be forced to look for a new home. And Indianapolis could be that destination.

The Indianapolis Colts Should Consider Signing Russell Wilson

Looking Back at His Career

The Seattle Seahawks selected Russell Wilson in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he was expected to back up Matt Flynn, who had just signed as a free agent. Yet, Wilson ended up beating out Flynn for the starting quarterback job.

Wilson went on to become a star in Seattle. During his 10 seasons with the franchise, he made nine Pro Bowls, the All-Pro second team once, and led the NFL in passer rating (2015 season) and passing touchdowns (2017). More importantly, he led the Seahawks to two Super Bowl appearances, winning one.

Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos during the 2022 offseason. He lasted just two seasons in Denver, though, failing to make the playoffs both years. Released by the Broncos, he signed a one-year deal with the Steelers last offseason.

Why the Colts Should Consider Signing Him

During his year-end press conference, Colts general manager Chris Ballard said the team will give quarterback Anthony Richardson some competition. That would be a great move since it could push Richardson to become a better player.

It will be interesting to see who Ballard brings in. Someone like Daniel Jones, Mac Jones, or Jameis Winston might be the guy added to the roster this offseason. But the Colts should consider signing Russell Wilson if he doesn’t return to Pittsburgh.

Wilson isn’t a superstar anymore who’s gonna lead a team to a Super Bowl. Plus, at 36 years old, he’s no spring chicken. Yet, he’s still capable of taking a team to the playoffs like he did this season.

Richardson has been injury-prone during his career thus far. Needless to say, he could wind up missing games next season as well. If that happens, Wilson could take over and start in his place.

Richardson has struggled when he’s been healthy. The former fourth-overall pick completed only 47.7 percent of his passes this season. Wilson would serve as an excellent mentor for the 22-year-old Richardson. He could certainly learn a thing or two from a nine-time Pro Bowler who’s won a Super Bowl and is likely headed for the Hall of Fame one day.

Main Image: Marc Lebryk-Imagn Images

If Russell Wilson doesn’t re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Colts should bring him in to compete with Anthony Richardson.

[54,12
9564,7800,237
post-211202","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-editorials","category-colts","tag-anthony-richardson","tag-indianapolis-colts-news","tag-russell-wilson
["GET
