Joe Flacco has been valuable for the Colts as someone to come in and take the reins when needed. Anthony Richardson is off to a rocky start, and he has already seen his fair share of injuries thus far. Flacco could also decide to hang it up considering he’ll be turning 40 years old this year. Signing a veteran like Brissett makes sense.

Prediction: Colts, One-Year, $6.5M

Yes, signing Jacoby Brissett does make sense for the Colts. Depending on what happens in the offseason, the team could be in the market for a quality veteran backup for Anthony Richardson. And that’s exactly what Jacob Brissett is. He has played nine seasons in the NFL and, of course, spent time with the Colts a few years ago.

The Indianapolis Colts Could Sign Jacoby Brissett This Offseason

Brissett’s Career

Brissett had college football stints with the Florida Gators and the North Carolina State Wolfpack. The New England Patriots then selected him in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. As a rookie in New England, Brissett was the team’s third-string quarterback behind Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo. Yet, he did win a Super Bowl ring that season.

Brissett was traded to the Colts in 2017 to back up Andrew Luck. He would play four seasons in Indianapolis, starting 30 of his 46 games. He started 15 games in 2017, filling in for the injured Luck. Brissett threw for a career-high 3,098 yards that season.

Then he started 15 games in 2019 following Luck’s retirement. Brissett later had stints with the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns and Washington Commanders. The Florida native returned to the Patriots this season. He started five games before rookie Drake Maye took over the reins for the remainder of the year.

Should a Jacoby Brissett Reunion Happen?

Anthony Richardson has had an up-and-down career since being drafted in 2023. He has battled injuries and possesses major accuracy issues. Richardson was benched briefly this season in favor of veteran Joe Flacco. Yet, he can be exciting at times and could develop into one of the greatest rushing quarterbacks of all time. Richardson is expected to be the Colts starting quarterback again in 2025.

Flacco served as Richardson’s primary backup this season. The former Super Bowl MVP started six games, filling in for Richardson. Flacco, who’s about to turn 40, could retire or sign with another team. If that’s the case, Brissett would be a great replacement.

Brissett has served as a mentor for most of his career. And surely he learned a lot watching Tom Brady in New England. If Flacco leaves this offseason, the Colts could choose to make Sam Ehlinger or Jason Bean Richardson’s primary backup. However, a reunion with the more experienced Brissett would be the better option.

Main Photo Courtesy of Gregory Fisher – Imagn Images

An analyst predicted free agent quarterback Jacoby Brissett will reunite with the Indianapolis Colts this offseason.

[12
33071,9564,56,1500,235
post-209964","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colts","tag-2025-nfl-free-agency","tag-anthony-richardson","tag-indianapolis-colts","tag-jacoby-brissett","tag-joe-flacco
["GET
