Going into the day, there was a range of possibilities where they could have landed as high as the second pick and as low as the ninth pick. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2025\/01\/02\/giants-win-over-colts-impacts-nfl-draft-position-week-18\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Week 17\u2019s surprising win<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> against the Indianapolis Colts and the Cleveland Brown\u2019s loss on Saturday night stopped Big Blue from securing the first overall pick- and ensuring they could get the quarterback they covet.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Giants Officially Secure the Third Overall Pick in 2025 NFL Draft<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Now<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2025\/01\/01\/john-mara-hopes-to-keep-giants-regime\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> General Manager Joe Schoen,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> if he is retained, will decide what direction he wants to take the team in a crucial offseason where he needs to find the next franchise quarterback and fill out a roster that lacks quality depth at crucial positions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2024 season exposed the faults in the Giants roster and they need immediate upgrades at:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cornerback<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interior offensive lineman<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Defensive tackle<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Linebacker<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Defensive End\/ Edge Rusher<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most importantly, the team needs a new signal caller, but Schoen may be hard-pressed to find blue chip talent at the top of the draft if the two top quarterbacks are off the board.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, finding the next franchise quarterback without the first overall pick means Schoen will most likely need to trade up with either the Titans or Browns who are ahead of them. If Schoen pulls the trigger on a trade, he better have a conviction on one of the quarterbacks or else the Giants may find themselves at the top of next year\u2019s draft cycle again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, Schoen learned last season that it takes two teams to trade. It was well documented on the inaugural offseason <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hard Knocks <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Giants desperately tried to trade with the New England Patriots to take Drake Maye, some reports that they offered as much as their next three first-round picks. New England stayed put and the rest is history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If this were to happen again- and it might- the Titans and the Browns both need quarterbacks in their own right- the Giants might focus on taking the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/draft\/bestavailable\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">best player available. <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some players include:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Travis Hunter, WR\/CB, Colorado<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Will Johnson, CB, Michigan<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mason Graham, DT, Michigan<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Needless to say, the 2025 decisions the Giants front-office makes this offseason is going to be imperative to the team\u2019s success- or demise- in the future.
