The Bills last playoff game took place on January 8, 2000, a 22-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Their 17-year stretch of missing the playoffs is the longest such streak in the NFL.

The first to interview for the job, Beane met with the Bills for a second time on Monday according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Before accepting, Buffalo reportedly needed to reassure him that he’ll ultimately have final say over the roster. Initial reports suggested that McDermott would get that decision-making power.

Beane temporarily took over as interim general manager for the Panthers in 2012 when the team parted ways with Marty Hurney. The following year, he assumed his assistant role after Carolina hired current general manager Dave Gettleman. Under their watch, the Panthers made the playoffs three straight years. It culminated with an appearance in Super Bowl 50, a 24-10 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Buffalo’s 2017 regular season gets underway on September 10th when they welcome AFC East rival New York Jets to New Era Field. The following week, they head on the road for the first time with a game against Beane and McDermott’s former team in Carolina. Both games kick off at 1 PM with CBS providing television coverage.

Embed from Getty Images

The Buffalo Bills filled their open general manager position by hiring Brandon Beane who previously served as assistant general manager in Carolina.

[3,36
2461,177,329,2394,40,1159
post-20501","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-bills","category-nfl-news","tag-brandon-beane","tag-buffalo-bills","tag-carolina-panthers","tag-doug-whaley","tag-nfl","tag-sean-mcdermott
["GET
