I was one of the happier fans as Reese seemed to hit on a few key picks, which will be helpful for the team this season. Tomlinson is my favorite player that the Giants drafted, and he will immediately step in and fill the role that Johnathan Hankins left when he signed with the Indianapolis Colts. Tomlinson is a big body, 6’3’’ and 310 pounds, and is known for his run stoppage. Expect the Giants to be the most dominant run-stopping defense in the league.

Head Scratcher

The biggest head scratcher was Engram. Engram is a very talented player, but the pick of a tight end in the first round did not make the most sense to me. Jerry Reese expressed his distain for the offensive line class, but that is easily the Giants biggest need. With Forrest Lamp and Ryan Ramczyk still on the board, I think many Giants fans believe one of those two players should have been the pick. Evan Engram may turn out to be a great player, but he made the least amount of sense based off where he was picked.

The Surprise

Davis Webb was truly a shock to most Giants fans. Many analysts had Webb as a potential surprise first-round pick to second round pick. Based strictly off of value, Webb was easily the correct decision. With the Giants in win now mode, this pick seems to make less sense. However, Reese stated earlier in the off-season that the Giants need to start preparing for life without future Hall of Fame quarterback Eli Manning.

Davis Webb will have two to three seasons to adjust to pro football under one of the best quarterbacks. This pick surprised many, but could be seen as the best pick if Webb develops under Manning just like Aaron Rodgers developed under Brett Favre.

The Steal

Wayne Gallman. Remember that name. Gallman was the Giants fourth-round pick and he looks to find an immediate role in this offense. Just like Paul Perkins found his way into the Giants offense last year, I expect the same from Gallman.

Gallman is a big bodied running back, 6’0’’ 210 pounds, he will try and fill the role left by Brandon Jacobs. Without question, he should be used in short yardage situations and goal line situations. This is the type of running back the Giants missed last season and Gallman should find himself involved in the offense early on.

Most Likely to Turn Heads in Training Camp

Evan Engram will be the player to turn heads this August. I have already seen a video where Engram is making one-handed catches look as easy as Odell Beckham Jr. makes it look. I expect Engram to be a big time player for the Giants in the future, and he should start showing flashes of that during training camp.

The Rest

Avery Moss and Adam Bisnowaty were the other two draft picks by the Giants last week. Moss was dismissed from Nebraska in 2013, but righted his career at Youngstown State and seems to be a value pick in the fifth round, after finishing last season with 59 tackles and 10.5 sacks. Moss will compete with Romeo Okwara and Kerry Wynn to fill the backup role.

Bisnowaty is the offensive lineman that all Giants fans were waiting for. Although it took six rounds to happen, Jerry Reese finally picked one. They even traded up seven picks to get their guy. Look for him to compete with Bobby Hart and D.J. Fluker for the starting job on the right side of the line

The Bottom Line

This has the making to be a solid draft class, with many value picks. Last season, the Giants hit a homerun with their draft class. All of the players drafted besides Darian Thompson and B.J. Goodson (both whom are projected to get expanded roles this season) played a significant role for the Giants. I think Engram and Tomlinson will start immediately, with Gallman and Bisnowaty getting more playing time as the season progresses.

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

New York Giants 2017 NFL Draft: Jerry Reese and company disappointed some fans with this draft, but some potential value selections made other fans happy.

[20,54,1647
1353,1863,1692,61,92,40
post-19972","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-giants","category-editorials","category-nfl-draft","tag-2017-nfl-draft","tag-dalvin-tomlinson","tag-evan-engram","tag-football","tag-new-york-giants","tag-nfl
["GET
