Upside Plays of the Week

Week 6 of fantasy football provides managers with another opportunity to make difficult lineup decisions. Often players who are viewed as fringe starters can produce unexpectedly big performances. These will often make or break fantasy football matchups. Below is a list of players, one from each position, that carry upside and should be in fantasy starting lineups in Week 6.

Upside Plays of the Week – Week 6 Fantasy Football

Quarterback – Caleb Williams

Williams had a positive Week 5 performance, throwing for 304 yards and two touchdowns and finishing as a top-7 QB in fantasy. The mobile rookie also had a one-yard rushing touchdown called back in what could’ve been a phenomenal fantasy day. Williams and the Bears face the 1-4 Jaguars in Week 6, serving as another advantageous matchup for this offense. Jacksonville is allowing nearly 300 passing yards per game and 25.8 fantasy points to the quarterback position this season. With the Bears offense starting to move the chains after a sluggish start to the year, Williams could be in for another big performance in Week 6.

Running-Back – Devin Singletary or Tyrone Tracy Jr.

This upside play is dependent on whether Singletary is active in Week 6, having sat out Week 5 with a groin injury. He has recorded a limited practice this week so far, which bodes well for his availability. Nonetheless, whichever Giants running-back is leading the backfield against the Bengals in Week 6 should be a great start for fantasy. Tracy showed his handcuff value in Week 5, exploding for 129 rushing yards in an upset win against the Seahawks. The Bengals are allowing 17.6 fantasy points per game to running backs and have been especially vulnerable in the red zone, conceding five rushing touchdowns so far this season. With the Bengals-Giants game having a high over/under a total of 47.5, expect a high-scoring affair and one of the Giants running backs to fall into the end zone.

Wide Receiver – Calvin Ridley

Ridley has had a rough start to his Tennessee Titans career, having recorded only nine receptions for 141 yards thus far this season. However, fresh off the bye, Ridley gets to face a Colts secondary that has been torched by perimeter wide receivers. The Colts allowed rookie Brian Thomas Jr. to go for 8-122-1 in Week 5 and are conceding 24.2 fantasy points per game to the position. Watch out for Ridley to have his best performance in a Titans uniform this week.

Tight-End – Kyle Pitts

Pitts has arguably been the most frustrating player to own for fantasy football managers. However, he had some positive regression last week with Falcons quarter-back Kirk Cousins returning to form. Pitts recorded seven receptions for 88 yards, which was his highest yardage total since his rookie season. Pitts and the Atlanta Falcons face the Carolina Panthers in Week 6, which poses as a plus matchup for nearly every skill position. The Panthers are allowing 50 receiving yards per game and the 10th most fantasy points to tight ends this season. Week 6 might be the opportunity to see Pitts put in two consistent fantasy performances in a row since recording over 1,000 yards in his rookie campaign.

Main Photo: [Daniel Bartel] –
