But it’s never too early to start looking at who the Indianapolis Colts could take next year. Josh Edwards of cbssports.com recently put together a 2025 mock draft. He has the Colts selecting Notre Dame cornerback Benjamin Morrison in the first round.

“The Colts chase of a top-flight cornerback finally comes to a conclusion with the selection of Benjamin Morrison in the first round. The room looks a lot better if JuJu Brents and the rest of the young unit slides down a spot on the depth chart.”

It’s no secret that the secondary is one of the team’s biggest weaknesses. With that said, drafting a cornerback like Morrison makes a ton of sense.

2025 Mock Draft Has Indianapolis Colts Taking a Cornerback

Benjamin Morrison’s Career Thus Far

Benjamin Morrison played high school football at Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, Arizona. He recorded 53 tackles and two interceptions during his senior year.

Morrison then landed at Notre Dame. He would have a solid freshman season with the Fighting Irish. During a game against Boston College, he had three interceptions, which tied the NCAA single-game record. Morrison finished the season with 33 tackles, six interceptions (including a pick-six), and four pass breakups. For his efforts, he was named a Freshman All-American.

Morrison recorded 31 tackles, three interceptions, and ten pass breakups as a sophomore. He also finished as a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist. Through five games this season, he has produced 16 tackles and four passes defensed.

Why the Colts Should Draft Him

The secondary was the Colts’ biggest weakness last year. Yet, general manager Chris Ballard didn’t do much to upgrade the area this past offseason. While they re-signed cornerback Kenny Moore II and safety Julian Blackmon, Indianapolis did very little in addressing the unit via the draft.

Ballard and Co. also failed to sign free agent safety Justin Simmons. Instead, they watched the two-time Pro-Bowler sign with the Atlanta Falcons for only a one-year deal.

The Colts chose to go with their young secondary players, which includes guys like JuJu Brents and Jaylon Jones. Brents may turn into a star one day. However, he has had a difficult time staying healthy. Jones, meanwhile, has been great this year. He was named Defensive Player of the Week after recording two interceptions against the Chicago Bears in Week 3.

Drafting Morrison would be ideal for the Colts. The 6-foot, 190-pounder is skilled enough to line up in the slot as well as on the boundary. From both spots, he can shut down the opposing team’s top receiver every week. Plus, he has all the intangibles needed to develop into a No. 1 cornerback in the NFL.

Coming off a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the 2-2 Colts currently have the second-best record in the AFC South. They’re focused on their upcoming matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars right now. It’s a long season, and it’s unclear, of course, where they’ll be picking in the 2025 draft. But if they can land a quality cornerback like Morrison, they should make it happen.

Main Image: Trevor Ruszkowski – USA Today Sports

A recent mock draft has the Indianapolis Colts selecting Notre Dame cornerback Benjamin Morrison in the 2025 NFL Draft.

[12,54
32847,56,9963
post-192399","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colts","category-editorials","tag-benjamin-morrison","tag-indianapolis-colts","tag-julius-brents
["GET
