Michael Davis? That was seven years ago. However, under this brand new regime, the Chargers decided to give undrafted rookie Tre’Mon Morris-Brash a chance to compete, and he did. As Head Coach Jim Harbaugh said, “Competitors are welcome.” Morris-Brash has been taking advantage of his opportunities and become a real problem for the league soon.

Chargers Undrafted Rookie Could Be a Problem for the League

Who is Tre’Mon Morris-Brash?

After a successful high school career in Washington DC, Morris-Brash earned a four-star recruiting status and was highly touted for his pass rush ability. Once he committed from UCF, he slowly garnered more and more playing time eventually leading to a long five-year career at the esteemed college. In the last two years of his career at UCF, Morris-Brash really put it all together, where he had 14.5 sacks across those two seasons.

His production, leadership, and athletic ability were thought to be enough to get him drafted once he declared in 2024. Unfortunately, the 6’2 245 pound EDGE rusher was thought to be undersized to be an impact rusher at the next level. Not having enough arm length, size, or strength is usually a sign of disaster. However, his jump off the ball and his ferocious mentality were enough for the Chargers to give him an undrafted rookie deal, and allow him to compete for a roster spot.

#Chargers LB Tre’mon Morris-Brash #57 ⁦@Dolladrop3⁩ beats LT Alex Leatherwood off the EDGE for the sack.

Real quick off the snap ⚡️👀#ChargersCamp pic.twitter.com/PZF8FmYD8s

— Chargers Centel (@ChargersCountry) August 7, 2024

The Rise of The Undrafted Star

Once signed with the Chargers, on a 3-year $2,835,000 undrafted rookie contract, the UCF product started buzzing early in off-season workouts, giving the media someone to take a closer look at. When Chargers defensive coordinator, Jesse Minter was asked about the Chargers’ first preseason game and who he was excited to see he specifically mentioned the undrafted rookie. Garnering praise from Minter this early on is impressive.

When it came time to play in the preseason, Morris-Brash was asked upon quite often, and he impressed. During his first-ever NFL game, he recorded 2 pressures, a tackle, and a stop on only 33 snaps. While these are not eye-popping numbers, this is still extremely impressive. This coupled with his 12 snaps on special teams, playing on all units besides field goal, gives him a real chance to make this roster.

The first 3 EDGE Rusher look from Jesse Minter's defense, featuring Bud Dupree, Morgan Fox, Tuli Tuipulotu, and Tre'Mon Morris-Brash. If he continues to garner respect from his peers, coaches, and offenses around the league, he could very well play a key role in the 2024 season for the Chargers. Furthermore, it has recently come out that current EDGE4 Chris Rumph II, who is a cut candidate, suffered an injury and will miss some time.

Chris Rumph is expected to miss time, and now Andrew Farmer is not practicing (how much he'll miss remains to be seen).

Ty Shelby and Tre'Mon Morris-Brash should be pedal to the floor this week as the two available to compete for EDGE5 https://t.co/oGEfrZ4SjB

— Tyler Schoon (@tylerjschoon) August 12, 2024

This opens the door for Morris-Brash to come in and take his spot, at least until Rumph II is healthy. More chances to impress like he has all off season, is more of a chance of him sticking around. Filling in on special teams and defense and continuing building this team depth, could be important for the Chargers’ chances to make a run this year and next. If he continues to impress as we expect him to, the Chargers are likely going to be forced to keep him on the roster, due to the chance of someone picking up the undrafted rookie on the waiver wire.

Main Photo: Jonathan Hui-USA TODAY Sports

Head Coach Jim Harbaugh has said “Competitors are welcome” and this undrafted rookie has been taking advantage of his opportunities thus far.

[18
7642,7923,32322,1652,32745
post-185109","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-chargers","tag-chargers-featured","tag-chris-rumph-ii","tag-jesse-minter","tag-jim-harbaugh","tag-tremon-morris-brash
["GET
