The Carolina Panthers<\/a> are on the lookout for a new\u00a0backup quarterback. One with experience is likely preferred.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Panthers Notebook: Andy Dalton Injured for Fan Fest<\/h2>\n

Andy Dalton sat out Thursday night\u2019s Fan Fest at Clemson University with an injury and coach Dave Canales told reporters the 36-year veteran will be sidelined for at least a \u201ccouple weeks.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In his second year with the Panthers, Dalton participated in Wednesday\u2019s workout at the Panthers\u2019 new practice facility behind Bank of America Stadium.<\/span> Undrafted rookie quarterback Jack Plummer received extra reps, opposite starter Bryce Young.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAndy\u2019s got a quad injury right now, so we\u2019re just trying to get him back,” Canales said, as reported by USA Today. “It\u2019s a couple of weeks, but we\u2019ll work him through it and it was good for Jack Plummer to get out there to get those reps. Started off that first possession missed a couple of open guys high, it\u2019s part of the jitters. It\u2019s so good to just see him work through that, settle himself, and start making plays.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

No matter who the Panthers sign before Saturday\u2019s practice in Charlotte, N.C., Plummer is expected to get extended playing time during next Thursday\u2019s preseason opener at the New England Patriots<\/a>. Young will start, but should receive limited snaps.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJack\u2019s going to play a lot and then we\u2019re still working through getting another quarterback here for the time being while we don\u2019t have Andy,” Canales stated.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ryan Tannehill remains one of the top free agents on the market, but the 35-year-old has been inconsistent and injury-prone the past few seasons. Other options include Trevor Siemian, AJ McCarron, Blaine Gabbert, and Brian Hoyer.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After traveling back from Clemson, S.C., following Fan Fest, the Panthers will be off Friday.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
