The Kansas City Chiefs opened training camp with several players going on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list<\/a>. On the first day with veterans in attendance, another name was felled for the time being.<\/p>\n

Justin Reid Joins Chiefs\u2019 Walking Wounded<\/h3>\n

Charles Omenihu, Derrick Nnadi, Jaylen Watson, and Joe Thuney all landed on the PUP list as expected. The same goes for B.J. Thompson, who landed on the non-football injury list (NFI), where starting safety Justin Reid will join him, per Chiefs.com\u2019s Matt McMullen.<\/p>\n

Reid is dealing with a quad injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re just day-by-day<\/a> in it right now and see how he does,\u201d Head Coach Andy Reid told reporters about Reid after practice. \u201cHe’s very honest with you and he’s not going to hide anything. He’s going to make sure he tells you how he’s feeling, and so we trust him with that. And then, [Vice President of Sports Medicine and Performance Rick Burkholder] will take care of the rest of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rules are far more lenient in training camp and the preseason, so Reid can come off the NFI list at any point during then and rejoin the action.<\/p>\n

He will have to miss four games if he is still on the list by the deadline for final roster cutdowns.<\/p>\n

The date for that is August 27, at 4 p.m. ET, giving Reid and the other injured Chiefs to heal up in time for their Week 1 clash against Lamar Jackson and the 2023 AFC North champion Baltimore Ravens.<\/p>\n

Reid is in his third season with the Chiefs after four productive seasons with the Houston Texans. He has been an integral piece to the Chiefs\u2019 back-to-back Super Bowl runs.<\/p>\n
