Trey Lance<\/a>, the quarterback drafted out of North Dakota State University to the San Francisco 49ers<\/a> back in 2021 might be in for some playing minutes this upcoming season. <\/span>Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback, was seen in a boot over the 4th of July weekend. Although Prescott showed little concern when interviewed<\/a> about it, there may be a small opportunity for Lance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Back in the 2020 season, Prescott broke his ankle<\/a> playing against the New York Giants<\/a>. He was out for the remainder of the season due to surgery and needed to recover.<\/span><\/p>\n

Very often, players who suffer from injuries continue to suffer from those same injuries and aren\u2019t the same again. Since his initial injury back in 2020, Prescott has not had any major injuries concerning the ankle, but seeing him in the boot causes some concern for fans who still firmly remember when Tony Romo was a walking medical bill<\/a>. If Prescott is being honest and the boot is truly nothing worthy of concern, then there’s nothing to worry about. However, if Prescott’s injury proves to be a recurring issue, the Dallas Cowboys will be looking for another star QB.<\/span><\/p>\n

And maybe Trey Lance will be the perfect person to fill those shoes.<\/p>\n

Prescott’s Expiring Contract<\/h3>\n

Not to mention that Prescott is at the end of his contract<\/a> this year. Prescott performed well during the regular season, helping Dallas close out with a record of 12-5. However, it’s the post-season that tends to trash the team, since Prescott led the Cowboys to another crushing defeat at the hands of the wildcard Green Bay Packers<\/a>. Managers might now start considering whether to renew his contract or to replace him with a cheaper, more effective, alternative.<\/span><\/p>\n

Again, this is all reminiscent of Tony Romo, who failed to lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl victory before his retirement.<\/p>\n

Who Knows What Lance Will Do<\/h3>\n

In other words, this is the perfect opportunity for the Cowboys to try some fresh talent on the field. Lance\u2019s completion rate dims in comparison to Prescott\u2019s (54.9%<\/a> to 67%<\/a> respectively), so there may not be much hope for Lance to compare. <\/span>But of course, that was with his old team. He hasn\u2019t gained synergy with the current Cowboys’ offensive weapons, so it\u2019ll be interesting to see what he can do if given the chance.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the Cowboys training camp beginning on July 25th, time will tell what is in store for Lance and the Cowboys this preseason.<\/span><\/p>\n
