The Huskies were underrated and disrespected by the media their entire run to being the runner-up to Michigan. However, that did not stop their historic offensive production from becoming one of the most significant offenses in NCAAF history. Everyone has heard of the regulars Penix Jr., Fautanu, Odunze, Polk, McMillian, etc. There is now, and rightfully so, another Husky NFL Draft prospect named Roger Rosengarten rising the draft boards.

Roger was a four-star offensive line prospect out of Littleton, Colorado, committed to the Washington Huskies. Rosengarten played sparingly his first two years because of COVID and redshirt. In 2022, he became a full-time starter, starting every game, and was named Pac-12 all-freshman team. In 2023, he again started all 15 games and was named Pac 12 honorable mention. Will his success translate to the pros? Let’s dig into the film.

Roger Rosengarten Player Evaluation

Rosengarten ’s Strengths

He has a tall frame with an excellent build to add weight and strength to his frame. Has 33.5 inches of arm length and almost 10-inch hands. He has prototypes for arm-length wingspans and builds to develop successfully at the next level.

He has a good explosion out of his stance and gets to his set point with ease. With his confidence in his range, he can mix his set and keep his opponent guessing.

He has the feet, athleticism, and awareness to recover in pass protection. He can mirror pass rushers and redirect his feet.

Good ability to pass off stunts and games with ease. Sharp at recognizing and executing.

He has the athleticism to reach defenders at the second level and on zone blocks. Perfect match for zone scheme day one

Possesses good hand strength and timing with punch

Dominated Senior Bowl shows his competitive spirit.

Rosengarten’s Weaknesses

He has below-average play strength and is an anchor for a high-round tackle prospect. He needs to develop frame and strength to better hold the point of attack in the pass-and-run game.

Although he explodes out of his stands, he sometimes completely pops out of his stance, hurting his pad level.

He has good size but is not the biggest and most massive tackle in the class. His anchor hurts, allowing the defender to access his body more easily.

He can sometimes be too overaggressive in his pass sets, causing him to lounge and miss the target. Because of his over aggression, he has had too many clean losses.

Hand timing, placement, and usage need to be improved.

Had the worst game arguably for his career vs Michigan in the fourth quarter. Too many clean losses, oversetting, and lack of anchor issues appear.

Projection: Second Round Pick

NFL Comparison: Garrett Boiles

Best Fits: San Francisco 49ers, Washington Commanders, Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers and the Tennessee Titans

Bottom Line

Roger Rosengarten is a highly touted developmental prospect tailor-made for a team that is heavily zone-based. He has the length, athleticism, experience, and ability to be a starting tackle by year three. If Rosengarten improves his strength, endurance, and technique, he can become a top-half tackle in the NFL.

Main Photo Credit: Mark J.
