Making a trade in the first round for a blue-chip player could push them over the top. Could the Eagles trade up for Brock Bowers in the 2024 NFL Draft?

Could the Eagles Trade Up For Georgia Tight End Brock Bowers?

How Brock Bowers Fits

Even with Dallas Goedert on the roster, the Eagles could stand to improve their tight end room. For years, Philadelphia’s offense relied on two tight end sets. Goedert and Zach Ertz made up one of the league’s best tight end combinations and made life difficult for opposing defenses. Quarterback Jalen Hurts has weapons at his disposal, but Bowers would add a whole different dynamic to the Eagles offense. He profiles as a top-tier prospect.

As a tight end, Bowers plays more like a running back. When the ball is in his hands, he creates havoc. Throughout his time at Georgia, the team used Bowers in a wide variety of ways. He finished his career in Athens with five total rushing touchdowns. While Kellen Moore hasn’t had a tight end like Bowers before, he should be able to deploy him in creative ways. Having a weapon like Bowers could push this Eagles offense back into the mix for one of the league’s most dynamic.

Bowers can be used as an H-back and even moved into the slot. His size makes him hard to defend for smaller corners and his speed makes him tough to cover for linebackers. Outside of DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown, the Eagles could use a reliable redzone threat. Adding Bowers to the mix with Smith, Brown, Goedert, and Saquon Barkley could make this Eagles offense tough to defend.

The Trade Package

The Eagles don’t have as much draft capital as they had in recent years, but they do have enough to pull off this trade. With two second-round picks, Philadelphia has the flexibility to put together a package that could make this trade work. The Eagles also possess pick 22 in the first round, giving them plenty of ammunition. A trade like this would make sense for a team looking to rebuild, or a team without many draft picks.

The team that comes to mind is the Denver Broncos. With only two picks in the top 76, Denver could stand to add more capital as they manage a tight salary cap. The Broncos are more positioned to build their roster than take a swing on a blue-chip player in the first round, given the amount of holes they have. If a team like the Eagles calls and offers picks 22 and 50, plus a late-round pick in 2025, the Broncos should take the trade. On the trade value chart, this offer appears fair.

By trading back from pick 12, the Broncos could still fill their needs at cornerback, offensive line, or wide receiver. Though it would be tempting for Denver to stay put if a player like Quinyon Mitchell or Rome Odunze is available, the Broncos would be better off trading back.

A trade like this would benefit both parties and give the Eagles a dynamic weapon to their offense. With Bowers in the fold, Philadelphia would once again give opposing defenses headaches.

Main Photo: Trevor Ruszkowski – USA Today Sports

Philadelphia can go from being good to great on offense by making a bold trade in the NFL Draft for a top tight end.

[1647,21
10068,266,1829
post-169460","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-draft","category-eagles","tag-brock-bowers","tag-denver-broncos","tag-kellen-moore
["GET
