He may be the starting this 2024 season but the former franchiser is on a short leash. The franchise is considering selecting a quarterback with the No. 6 overall pick in this year’s draft despite landing a four-year, $160 million extension with Jones. His injury history is plaguing him making the team consider moving on in the first place.

His performance was up to speed, but injuries have been the story of his short-fuse career. Two neck injuries and a torn ACL in the last three seasons have limited Jones to just 33 of 50 games. Jones also missed two games with a high ankle sprain in his rookie year, while hamstring injuries plagued him for two matchups in 2020. The Giants have been scouting and talking to six top quarterbacks in this year’s draft, including Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy.

Whatever team selects Marvin Harrison Jr. early in the first round increases the chances of the Giants selecting a quarterback at No. 6 overall. They seem content with either sitting at No. 6 or moving back, however, they may use the free agency to grab a veteran. This is always a possibility if they want to start an experienced quarterback until they figure out their next franchiser. If the team selects a quarterback in this year’s draft then that could be the first indicator of the franchise moving on.

However, Giants head coach Brian Daboll looks to clear the air and says Jones is their guy for this upcoming season. This may only last for a while later in the fall if his productivity falters.

$160 Million Quarterback Daniel Jones Future Is Questionable Amid Rumors of Giants Replacing Him

He Is on the Hot Seat This Season

Drew Lock recently signed a contract with the team and is joining forces to be Jones’ backup this upcoming season. However, Lock is clearing the air to the media after the controversy started spiraling that he may be competing for Jones’ starting position. Seattle Seahawks General Manager John Schneider claimed that he would be competing for a starting job and Lock’s response seems to catch everyone off guard. He says he will be the backup for this team.

“Daniel Jones is the starter of this team. Now I need to come in and push Daniel to be the best he can be,” he said. “I’ve had both sides of this. I’ve been a guy to push the starter, I’ve been a guy that’s been pushed by the backups. It’s about making that room the best it can be. If we can do that, the sky’s the limit for that.”

This still could be continuously speculated down the line when rumors may heat up again if Jones underperforms. There’s still a chance that they will sign someone if Lock isn’t working out for the team. However, they may let the year play out to see what decision they make for their quarterback.

Expectations for Jones This Year

It’s a now-or-never type of year for Daniel Jones this upcoming 2024 season. If he continues to face the same issues, he may be released midseason landing him on the market. This could intrigue a team like the Los Angeles Chargers or Kansas City Chiefs that need a backup. Jones may end up like Carson Wentz and struggle to find a starting role, especially with quarterback competition rising throughout the league.

New York can save $19.395 million by releasing Jones next offseason. The Giants have an out for his contract and they could do just that if he underperforms or gets reinjured.

Here is how $160 million quarterback and New York Giant, Daniel Jones’ future is questionable amid rumors of his release.

[36,16,18,20
3472,248,7642,7811,4688,10076,32358
post-167320","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-news","category-chiefs","category-chargers","category-giants","tag-brian-daboll","tag-carson-wentz","tag-chargers-featured","tag-chiefs-featured","tag-daniel-jones","tag-drake-maye","tag-j-j-mccarthy
["GET
