The New York Giants have re-signed defensive end\u00a0Jason Pierre-Paul<\/a><\/strong>. The deal is for four years and is worth $62 million, according to ESPN<\/a>. $40 million of that money was guarunteed.<\/p>\n

New York Giants Re-Sign Jason Pierre-Paul<\/h1>\n

Pierre-Paul played under the franchise tag in 2016, which meant he was earning less than $10 million. After the team’s playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers, he made sure it was heard that he wouldn’t play under the tag again.<\/p>\n

“I’m not playing on no one-year deal,” he said after the game back<\/a> in January. “I’ve proved it. I’ve showed it. There is not really another guy like me out here doing it with seven and a half fingers still.” Pierre-Paul lost a couple fingers in a fireworks accident on July 4, 2015.<\/p>\n

After a one-sack season after the accident, he came back strong with seven sacks in 2016. He could have had more, but he underwent sports hernia surgery at the end of the season.<\/p>\n

The week before their game against Green Bay,\u00a0several Giants players players went on a trip to Miami.\u00a0While Pierre-Paul wasn’t involved, it may have played a part in the Giants 38-13 playoff loss.<\/p>\n

Before signing Pierre-Paul to the big deal, they signed him to another franchise tag last month. It was a one year contract worth close to $17 million ($16,934,000, to be exact).<\/p>\n

The Giants were also $3,918,376 under the salary cap as of this morning. That was the third lowest in the league behind the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams.<\/p>\n

Pierre-Paul was drafted by the Giants in the first round (15th overall) in the 2010 NFL Draft. He recorded a career-high 16.5 sacks in 2011. The Giants won their second Super Bowl over the New England Patriots in four years that season.<\/p>\n

The Giants\u00a0have also recently signed wide receiver Brandon Marshall<\/a><\/strong> and\u00a0quarterback Geno\u00a0Smith<\/strong>.\u00a0Both played for the New York Jets last season.<\/p>\n
