Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes are arguably the two best quarterbacks in the NFL<\/a>, and their teams are set to face off in the AFC Championship Game<\/a>. This is the first time these two have faced off in a postseason contest and, despite the high-stakes environment, the two quarterbacks cannot stop raining praise on each other. Jackson began by complementing Mahomes’ elite style of play and comparing the two to a heavyweight fight, and Mahomes returned the favor during his time in front of the microphones.<\/p>\n

Lamar Jackson: Patrick Mahomes Is “Definitely A Hall of Famer”<\/h3>\n

The presumptive MVP began the positive vibes when he took the microphone on Wednesday. When asked what he liked about facing Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson made a joke about the quarterback’s insane abilities.<\/p>\n

“I don’t like competing against him at all,” Jackson laughed. Frankly, it’s hard to blame him. Patrick Mahomes has been the best quarterback in the league since he earned the starting job, and Lamar Jackson knows that taking him down is going to be insanely difficult. However, the quarterback didn’t end with the joke, as he continued to praise his counterpart.<\/p>\n

“He’s a great quarterback,” Jackson said. “Definitely a Hall of Famer, it’s a no-brainer he’s definitely a Hall of Famer. I believe it’s just two greats, up and coming greats, going toe-to-toe like a heavyweight fight. Heavyweight matchup, that’s what I see.”<\/p>\n

The heavyweight matchup is a good comparison for the two. Patrick Mahomes is the reigning MVP, and Lamar Jackson will likely take the crown from him once the title is officially awarded. Outside of Josh Allen and maybe<\/em> Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert, no other quarterbacks come close to playing up to their level, and this is the type of matchup people want to see.<\/p>\n

Mahomes: “That’s What the Greats Do”<\/h3>\n

Not to be outdone, Patrick Mahomes returned the praise tenfold during his press conference, calling Lamar Jackson the MVP and commenting on his ability to win in a variety of ways.<\/p>\n

“He’s going to be the MVP<\/a> for a reason,” Mahomes said. “He goes out there, he leads his team, he scores, he runs, he throws. He does whatever it takes to win, and that’s what the greats do.”<\/p>\n

Even though the two quarterbacks both earned starting jobs in 2018, this is the first time they’ve faced off in the playoffs. However, Mahomes believes that this won’t be the last, as both quarterbacks are destined for multiple years of deep playoff runs.<\/p>\n

“I knew we were gonna play in a lot of games like this as our careers have gone on, and I’m sure this will be the first of many,” Mahomes said.<\/p>\n

It’s hard to blame Mahomes for that assessment. At the end of the day, these two are both elite quarterbacks and in today’s day and age, you can’t compete without a premium player at the game’s most important position. The winner of the first postseason battle between Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes will be determined on Sunday, but it definitely won’t be the last time these two face off with their respective seasons on the line.<\/p>\n
