Born in Limeiria, Brazil in the state of Sao Paulo, he first heard about American Football when he moved to Florida as a foreign exchange student. Santos discovered that the kicking skills he had developed from soccer worked well when it came to kicking a football. In hopes of landing a college scholarship Santos decided to continue schooling in Florida.

After receiving scholarships to a few schools the Brazilian native decided to go to Tulane. There, he would make the Conference USA All-Freshman team as a kicker. He made the Conference USA team by 13 out of 16 field goals and all but one extra point. In 2012, Santos would make the All-American team and the Lou Groza Award. This award is bestowed to the nation’s outstanding placekicker at the college ranks.

As most kickers are, Santos would go undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft. On November 27th, 2016, the Chiefs were in an overtime game against the Broncos. Santos kicked the game winning field goal that bounced off the left upright and through the back.

Embed from Getty Images

Cairo Santos produced career highs in field goals (31) and field goal percentage (88.6%), as the Chiefs won the AFC West for the first time since 2010.

[36,16
1336,61,122,40
post-14973","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-news","category-chiefs","tag-cairo-santos","tag-football","tag-kansas-city-chiefs","tag-nfl
["GET
