Several teams currently sitting at 1-3 and 0-4 have to know that this just isn’t their year, and that it’s time to start building for 2024. With the trade deadline less than a month away, don’t be surprised if some of these big-name players find a new home in the coming weeks.

[cta id=4013 type=cta]

5 Potential NFL Trades, Ideal Team Destinations

1. Kirk Cousins

Kirk Cousins is a solid starter in the NFL, but he’s not the type of guy who can singlehandedly drag a poor roster into the playoffs. We’re seeing that this year, as the quarterback is putting up exceptional numbers but isn’t good enough to overcome Minnesota’s terrible defense. The team is currently 1-3 and, if this downward spiral continues, the Vikings will likely trade Cousins to one of the many NFL teams looking for a quarterback upgrade. Cousins is in the final year of his contract, and the fact that Minnesota did not extend him already heavily implies they’ll be looking for a new face of the franchise in 2024.

Ideal Team Fits: New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers (if Kenny Pickett is seriously hurt)

2. Brian Burns

Last year at the NFL trade deadline, the Carolina Panthers reportedly turned down the opportunity to trade Brian Burns for two first-round picks. At the time, Carolina must have believed that they were only a quarterback away from competing and didn’t want to part ways with a potential building block on the defense. Well, they have their quarterback now, and the Panthers are worse than ever. Seeing as they have no first-round pick in 2024, they could be willing to trade Brian Burns for the right price.

Ideal Team Fits: Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams

I would sell my soul for Brian Burns in Baltimore pic.twitter.com/88FLvrYfy5

— RAMEY (@HoodieRamey) September 24, 2023

3. Jerry Jeudy

Sean Payton appears to have fixed Russell Wilson, but everything else in Denver is an absolute disaster. The team needed to mount a massive comeback just to beat the lowly Chicago Bears, and it’s a foregone conclusion that this team will not compete for a playoff spot. Jerry Jeudy is clearly behind Courtland Sutton in the pecking order, so the Broncos could choose to trade the former first-round pick to one of the many NFL teams looking for a starting-caliber wide receiver.

Ideal Team Fits: Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens

4. Jonathan Taylor

The contract dispute between Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts is one of the messiest in recent memory. It’s clear that the Colts will not give Taylor the deal he wants, and it’s also clear that Taylor has no desire to risk injuring himself for an organization that has no interest in his long-term well-being. Even though the NFL running back market has taken a tumble in recent years, there should be some teams willing to trade for a top-five talent like Taylor.

Ideal Team Fits: Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns

5. J.C. Jackson

The Los Angeles Chargers are 2-2, but big-money free agent J.C. Jackson is not a reason for the success. The cornerback picked up where he left off in 2022, and that’s not a good thing. He’s clearly not a fit for Brandon Staley’s defense, and the Chargers would probably trade him to any NFL organization willing to give up even a conditional seventh-round pick.

Ideal Team Fits: New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks

Universal Responsible Gambling Disclaimer: Ages 21+.
