With stellar star Quarterback Dak Prescott finally being let loose under the new offensive system, it leaves fans to wonder what Prescott can do this season. The team has an improved hungrier defense and more pieces to their offense. As well as other key ingredients to stay at the mountaintop of supremacy for the NFC East.

It’s an exciting time to be a Cowboys fan, who’s had their fair share of success under Prescott going 27-7 against NFC East teams. Despite not being NFC East Champions last season, the Dallas Cowboys are looking to change that to dethrone Super-bowl runner-ups, Philadelphia Eagles. It’s always a close one in NFC East battles in bittersweet competitions, but the Cowboys have the right ingredients to prevent other teams from becoming NFC East Champions. It’s like a barbeque and the Cowboys have the right pieces to spice things up at the grill.

[metabet_core_side_odds_tile query=”fbp/dallas_cowboys” size=”350×300″ site_id=”lastwordonsports”]

Here are five ways Dallas can paint their journey to an NFC East title.

Five Ways the Cowboys Can Top the NFC East

1. Dak Prescott’s New System

The Cowboys’ success in overtopping the NFC East is the performance of their star quarterback, Dak Prescott. Prescott is entering a pivotal year with the right playmakers and finally gets to call the shots on the field this season. Prescott has already proved his worth by finishing last season with 2,860 yards, 23 touchdowns, and a passer rating of 91.1. This was under Kellen Moore’s previously tenured offensive system who was released after losing once again in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Now, Prescott has a new offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, who is looking to let the quarterback do what he does best. Dak is poised for improvement more than ever with receiver depth and having Mike McCarthy letting him loose to call the plays. It should be a fun NFC East battle for years to come for Dak Prescott against the Commanders, Giants, and Eagles. Especially, the battle between Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott who are the likely contenders for the playoffs this season.

2. Future Offensive Weapons

The Cowboys retain one of the most underrated receiving weapons this season by also snagging former Houston Texan, Brandin Cooks. Dallas heavily favored the draft once again by jumping on Deuce Vaughn and using the preseason as an opportunity to see who could step up. Jalen Tolbert was that favorite in his second year putting on an impressive preseason performance this season. Tolbert capped off the preseason with six receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown.

Vaughn also impressed and made the roster as well to be the future behind Tony Pollard. The future production of young talent is bright and vital to the outlasting-powered Cowboys’ offense in the red zone. Which arguably improved last season, but looking to improve further this year. As underrated as they are, expect them to make some unexpected noise on the field come week one.

3. Bolstered Defense

Turning the ball over to gain momentum for your offense is always a crucial part of wanting to win the game. Last season, the Dallas Cowboys led the league in 33 turnovers, 16 of which were interceptions. It’s thanks to Dan Quinn’s mastermind that the team has over 67 forced turnovers in the last two seasons. Any player who can get behind his mind can be considered to have a field day during their season.

However, Quinn isn’t only credited, but Micah Parsons is considered the heart and soul of the defense. Parsons is a machine, point blank, but his leadership and attitude can help improve the young group coming in. Juanyeh Thomas is the sleeper on defense who’s earned well-deserved credit for the Dallas Cowboys roster. It will be another exciting time for the defense who will look to soon win championships.

There’s a saying “Defense wins championships” which is truly the mark for Dallas’ defense. They could be that team soon for this league which many other teams have done in the past.

4. Changing the momentum

It’s always important to build momentum at the beginning of the season for the NFC East race. However, the Dallas Cowboys have been struggling to capitalize on opportunities when it’s counted. It was up until 2022 when the Cowboys defeated the Eagles, but Philadelphia still won the East that season. It was due to the Eagles having a stronger record than Dallas and defeating teams Dallas had not beaten that year.

So, it’s critical for the Cowboys to build on their foundational to find a way to win more games. The team struggled on that in their loss against the Washington Commanders in their week 18 loss last season, 26-6. The Cowboys were successful in the first round of the playoffs, but they lagged in the divisional round. It’s obvious that the team lost gas, especially losing key players to injuries.

The Cowboys need to find a solution to build their momentum when dealing with injuries. A team can have all the talent on the roster, but when they’re unhealthy, it’s a problem. Depth is important to continue to build on. It seems like Dallas has enough talent in their depth, but the anticipation is if it can hold up barring any injuries this season.

5. Winning when it counts

Expect this season to come down to the last wire for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East. It’s always a dogfight when the Cowboys go up against other NFC East teams. It’s essential for the team to win in “Win big or go home” situations. This may very well be the stake for the Dallas Cowboys.

While a team can win all of its games in the regular season, doesn’t guarantee their chances to go all the way for the Super Bowl. The Cowboys always have tons of success in the regular season, but the story only awaiting to be rewritten is the playoffs. The world is in the hands of the team. It’s consequential to not only win their NFC East Battles but also get past the divisional round.

The Cowboys’ chance will be when they go against the New York Giants. The new season begins for them on Sunday night, so they need to capitalize and win the big one. As the stage sets, it will be an electrifying battle that will have fans on their toes.

Universal Responsible Gambling Disclaimer:

Ages 21+.
