The game was not as close as the final score would indicate as Fields was masterful while connecting on three passing scores to three different receivers.<\/p>\n<p>It answered one of <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2022\/08\/26\/chicago-bears-justin-fields-roquan-smith-velus-jones\/\" target=\"_self\">our biggest questions<\/a> heading into the game of whether or not the second-year passer was truly ready.<\/p>\n<p>We had seen little to that point \u2013 Saturday\u2019s trio were his first touchdowns of the preseason.<\/p>\n<p>But most were just waiting to see it, not wondering whether or not Fields was capable of doing so. Others, such as former Bears offensive coordinator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the33rdteam.com\/video\/justin-fields-in-nowin-situation-for-talentpoor-bears\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Martz<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/danorlovsky7\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ESPN\u2019s Dan Orlovsky<\/a>, have been less bullish on the quarterback. Now the latter is catching grief over it.<\/p>\n<h2>Super Bowl Champ Andrew Whitworth Claps Back Over Bears QB Justin Fields<\/h2>\n<h3>Twitter Comes for Dan Orlovsky<\/h3>\n<p>Orlovsky took to Twitter after the Bears finished an undefeated preseason. His goal was to show how much he enjoyed seeing Fields operate at a high level both in his decision-making and his execution.<\/p>\n<p>The play in question was Fields\u2019 24-yard score to tight end <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/K\/KmetCo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cole Kmet<\/a> who was wide open in the endzone.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Can\u2019t run this play any better <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/justnfields?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@justnfields<\/a> <br \/>What\u2019s problem-what\u2019s answer?!?!? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/08Mep0DoXR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/08Mep0DoXR<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Dan Orlovsky (@danorlovsky7) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/danorlovsky7\/status\/1563898788560998402?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">August 28, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>While the breakdown was very complimentary of Fields and his progress made in offensive coordinator <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoshGBuck\/status\/1563671829226860544\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luke Getsy<\/a>\u2019s scheme, the internet never forgets. Orlovsky\u2019s video was preceded by a resounding \u201cthis you?\u201d from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Allen_Payne15\/status\/1563700832687767552\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bears fans on Twitter<\/a> as some brought his credentials into question.<\/p>\n<p>He tried to defend himself saying he \u201cnever said Fields was anything close to bad\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>But it was for naught as 2021 Walter Payton Man of the Year and Super Bowl-winning offensive lineman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WhitAn20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andrew Whitworth<\/a> also chimed in to remind Orlovsky of how we got here.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Did you insinuate? It is often framed in the context of those around him not being talented enough to help Fields succeed. He infamously <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/danorlovsky7\/status\/1522216864306266114\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">put Fields in \u201cTier 9\u201d<\/a> in terms of second-year passers set up for success. Orlovsky cited a conversation he supposedly had with Fields\u2019 head coach at Ohio State, Ryan Day in casting aspersions over the quarterback\u2019s habits.<\/p>\n<p>He tried to clear that up but ended up just saying that he is sharing other people\u2019s opinions.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I love a good <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/danorlovsky7?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@danorlovsky7<\/a> roast sesh as much as anybody BUT..<\/p>\n<p>I think folks are missing that he was answering my question about \u201cWhy the narrative has changed about Fields so much?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He very assertively said \u201cThese are not my opinions\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He then went on to give a potential why <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Wud0ve4tcI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/Wud0ve4tcI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PatMcAfeeShow\/status\/1377378404840960002?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">March 31, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Orlovsky also said that he regretted not having more clarity in his words and that he reached out to Day and Fields <a href=\"https:\/\/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2021\/04\/05\/dan-orlovsky-regrets-not-having-more-clarity-and-specificity-in-his-justin-field-comments\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">after catching heat<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Bears QB Justin Fields Praised<\/h3>\n<p>Fields has drawn praise from Day 1 for his work ethic. Even in the tumult that was his rookie season under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/chicago\/bears\/bears-justin-fields-impresses-coaches-work-ethic-focus\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Nagy<\/a>, the issue was the coach not giving the player an opportunity until it was too late. But some of this information has been out there. And the things that he has chosen to run with will not be so easily forgotten.
