That year the Bengals suffered multiple injuries on the offensive line and Whitworth was thrust into a starting position at guard early on. In 2009 he was moved out to left tackle where he was extremely effective. That year he started every game and allowed a mere five sacks. In the time since he has been selected to the Pro Bowl three times and named an All-Pro twice. Whitworth, a team captain, played the 2016 season on a one year extension. Whitworth has played an incredible amount of football. He started one hundred and sixty-four games in eleven seasons with in Cincinnati and started fifty-two games in four years a LSU prior to that.<\/p>\n<p>Although Whitworth is thirty-five, he is playing the best football of his life. At 6\u20197\u201d 330 he is the prototypical player at the second most coveted position in professional football: left tackle. Whitworth is a versatile player having played guard at different times during his career.<\/p>\n<p>Whitworth was a part of Louisiana State Championship teams at West Monroe High School in both his sophomore and senior year. Following his senior year, he competed in the inaugural U.S. Army All-American Bowl in 2000. He signed with LSU where he redshirted in 2001. As a redshirt freshman in 2001 he started every game and was named a first team Freshman All-American. Starting in 2003 he helped his team earn a BCS National Title.
