So much so that they are being urged to rescue one high-priced wide receiver from a situation that just hasn\u2019t worked out in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GollKe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kenny Golladay<\/a> of the New York Giants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Third-year wideout <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MoonDa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Darnell Mooney<\/a> is poised to take another step forward following the first 1000-yard campaign of his young career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But there is little behind him in the way of proven production. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/P\/PrinBy00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Byron Pringle<\/a> is projected to be the second option on the outside. But he has fewer than 900 yards in his three-year career while fellow free-agent acquisition, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/St.BEq00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Equanimeous St. Brown<\/a> has fewer than 600 yards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proposed Trade Sees Chicago Bears Land $72M Pass-Catcher<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Delivering the Goods<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The suggestion that Bears general manager, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/executives\/PoleRy0.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Poles<\/a>, target Golladay comes <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/10038880-1-trade-each-nfl-team-should-offer-before-2022-training-camp-starts\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">via Bleacher Report\u2019s Ian Wharton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who bases much of his argument on the future. Chicago is slated to be one of the most cap-rich teams in the NFL after being strapped the last two offseasons. They will also have their first-round pick for the first time in two years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their last first-round pick was Fields adding another layer of significance to his development at the game\u2019s most important position.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No team has more cap room over the 2023 and 2024 seasons than the Chicago Bears. This team is ripe for an upside swing on a talented but expensive player who didn&#8217;t work out elsewhere. I think everybody should be here.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8v3MBpBBEZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/8v3MBpBBEZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ralph Vacchiano (@RalphVacchiano) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RalphVacchiano\/status\/1516816039409037314?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">April 20, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0spent the first four years of his career with the Detroit Lions who drafted him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He posted back-to-back 1000-yard campaigns in 2018 and 2019 while still a member of the Detroit Lions before appearing in just five games in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 6-foot-4 pass-catcher <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hauled in 11 touchdowns to lead the NFL in 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Swap and Savings<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This proposal is suggesting the Giants are paying to get off of his contract. Golladay\u2019s effort has been questioned, as Wharton points out. He floundered his way to just 37 catches on 76 targets for 521 yards and zero touchdowns. That is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheDougRush\/status\/1480263064490553348?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">highly disappointing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for a receiver set to earn over $53 million across the next three seasons, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotrac.com\/nfl\/new-york-giants\/kenny-golladay-21838\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">per Spotrac<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That could be behind any potential interest from the Giants in trading Golladay.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBecause of the way Golladay&#8217;s contract is structured, New York will save $17.75 million in cap space if they deal him. Chicago would assume just $13 million in salary in 2022. They could cut him after the season and incur a modest $3.4 million dead-cap hit from 2023 through 2025 if he simply doesn&#8217;t work out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Kenny Golladay suffered separate hamstring, knee, and hip injuries from August 3-October 10 last season. But such a small one in a year when they are going to be flush with cash makes more sense than not.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFields is a tremendous downfield passer, but the Bears lack an explosive big body who can get downfield. A receiving room with Golladay, Darnell Mooney, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JoneVe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Velus Jones<\/a>, and Byron Pringle would stand a chance of helping Fields make a leap this season.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bears Should Consider Golladay Trade<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poles has maintained that the <a href=\"https:\/\/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2022\/05\/06\/ryan-poles-were-all-in-on-justin-fields\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bears are \u201call in\u201d<\/a> on Fields. But the resources invested in two critical areas \u2013 offensive line and wide receiver \u2013 do not tell the same story. Both units project to be among the worst in the NFL next season. Pro Football Focus ranked the Bears&#8217; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pff.com\/news\/nfl-offensive-line-unit-rankings-tiers-2022\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">offensive line 31st<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pff.com\/news\/nfl-receiving-corps-rankings-cincinnati-bengals-philadelphia-eagles-2022\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">receiving corps dead-last<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[pickup_prop id=&#8221;24173&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is always the chance that some of the new faces could be surprises while old ones bounce back.
