A pectoral injury plagued him throughout his fourth season, yet, when healthy, Joseph-Day produced. In seven starts, Joseph-Day totaled 38 tackles, three sacks, and seven quarterback pressures. A versatile interior defensive lineman, Joseph-Day played in a career-high 69% of defensive snaps when on the field this past season. And now, as Joseph-Day enters his age 27 season, he will look to continue his rise.

Sebastian Joseph-Day was not a household name in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Rutgers product wound up being taken by the Los Angeles Rams with the 195th overall pick, and never saw the field as a rookie. Then, in year two, Joseph-Day was thrust into the starting lineup… and he never looked back. Joseph-Day started 31 of 32 games played from 2019 to 2020, becoming a key contributor to a strong Rams defense. Over the span, Joseph-Day compiled 99 total tackles, three sacks, four pass deflections, and nine quarterback hits. In other words, Joseph-Day made a name for himself in Los Angeles quickly.

What makes Joseph-Day stand out is his ability to rush the passer from the inside. In a league that prioritizes the pass game over the run game today, having a capable three-down lineman is vital to a defense’s success. At 6’4” and 310-pounds, Joseph-Day’s versatility is exactly what coaches are looking for. A stout run defender too, Joseph-Day has surpassed the expectations of a sixth-round pick and may only be getting better. If he returns healthy in 2022, Joseph-Day could be a problem for opposing centers and offensive guards.

Main Photo: Embed from Getty Images

NFL defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day has signed a three-year contract worth $24 million with the Los Angeles Chargers.
