You know the best thing about the NFC East? It’s completely wide open. Washington is favored to win the division, but only if Dak Prescott<\/strong> doesn\u2019t morph into Donovan McNabb<\/a><\/strong> 2.0. The New York Giants will need live up to their potential, but will need to\u00a0get their offense off life support after repeated preseason struggles. As for the Eagles, their rookie franchise quarterback who has only one start, is slotted to make his regular season debut. In other words, slap a big question mark over\u00a0each team until we see how things play out.<\/p>\n

Dak Prescott had a phenomenal pre-season. In limited preseason action, he threw for\u00a0454 yards in the air with no interceptions and five touchdowns.\u00a0He\u00a0completed 78% of his passes, which helped him to an impressive\u00a0137.8 QB rating. To add dimension, he added\u00a0two rushing touchdowns. Prescott has\u00a0sparked a couple of \u201cis he the real deal or not\u201d debates, and impressed<\/a> against the Legion of Boom with<\/em> their starters in.\u00a0He just might\u00a0save Jerry Jones<\/a>\u2019<\/strong> horrible 2016 drafting.<\/p>\n

Many fans have high hopes for Prescott, and indeed he has the potential to be a big-time steal in the draft. In Gruden\u2019s QB Camp<\/em>, Prescott came off as a polished vet, not a fresh baby faced rookie.\u00a0Dez Br<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s just confident,” explained La’el Collins<\/a>. “The level of focus that he has every day, the attention to detail that he uses throughout practice, and the questions that he asks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dez Bryant had high praise<\/a> for the rookie: \u201cThe chemistry with not only me and him, but the rest of the guys, it\u2019s tremendous. We\u2019re going to back him up and he\u2019s going to do the same. We\u2019re just going to keep each other lifted and go from there.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you were ranking starting quarterbacks right now, would\u00a0you take a shot on Prescott over:\u00a0Case Keenum<\/a><\/strong>, Blaine Gabbert<\/a><\/strong>, Jameis Winston<\/a><\/strong>, Sam Bradford<\/a><\/strong>, Carson Wentz<\/strong>, Alex Smith<\/a><\/strong>, Robert Griffin<\/a><\/strong>, Jimmy Garoppolo<\/a><\/strong>, Ryan Tannehill<\/a><\/strong>, Jay Cutler<\/a><\/strong>, and Matthew Stafford<\/a><\/strong>? If so, that would\u00a0place him in the mid-tier group\u00a0with Tyrod Taylor<\/a><\/strong>, Ryan Fitzpatrick<\/a><\/strong>, Brock Osweiler<\/a><\/strong>, and Kirk Cousins<\/a><\/strong>. The jury\u2019s still out on Trevor Siemian<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As great a preseason as he had, he does have a few areas he will need to work on very quickly to survive his first year. He has sketchy communication, he\u2019s horrible at reading pre-snap blitzes<\/a>.\u00a0He also needs to work on mixing up or using fake hikes to sniff out those blitzes.<\/p>\n

Of course\u00a0he\u2019s just a rookie and is sure to have growing pains. But a mobile rookie that can make all the simple passes with an already acquired special skill\u2014back shoulder throws\u2014has at least the tools to succeed.<\/p>\n

So maybe McNabb 2.0\/Prescott\u2014<\/span><\/a>as he\u2019s compared to by quarterback\u00a0guru\u2014Ron Jaworski<\/a><\/strong>, can have a special year. He has the receivers and offensive line. Has a really good running back. And with a wide open division, who knows.<\/p>\n
