On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs signed Gordon to their practice squad. He will most likely get a promotion to the active roster and be playing in Week-5, against the Bills. The one thing that could limit Gordon is learning the playbook quick enough to be up to game-speed in under a week, or will it even be an issue for Gordon?

Josh Gordon Should Have No Trouble With the Chiefs Playbook

Gordon is a Wizard

Let us take a quick trip back to memory lane. When asked about learning the Patriots playbook back in 2018, this is what Gordon had to say, “It hasn’t been too tough. I think that’s greatly due in part to the amount of help I receive from my teammates here, definitely Tom. All the receivers help bring me along on a daily basis, the coaches, just giving me all these resources I need and me taking advantage of it, going home and studying daily. I think … having a certain amount of experience in the league already and seeing so many different offenses and stuff, I think the language of it is somewhat familiar. It hasn’t been too tough.”

Bill Belichick has the toughest playbook to learn in the NFL. Belichick likes tinkering with the playbook daily/weekly to game-plan to attack every single weakness their upcoming opponent has. Gordon played for New England for a stretch of 17 games in 2018/2019. Gordon tallied up 104 catches for 1007-yards, and four touchdowns in that span.

In 2015, Reggie Wayne signed with the Patriots on August 24th. Wayne played in two preseason games before deciding to call it quits. Wayne wanted out because the former Colts receiver thought the Patriots’ work environment was too tough. That was the last time we saw Reggie Wayne in an NFL uniform.

[pickup_prop id=”12830″]

Taking the Top-Off-The-Defense

The Chiefs have had Mecole Hardman, Demarcus Robinson, and Byron Pringle for receiving help to complement Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. The addition of Gordon to this already loaded offense adds intrigue to take-the-top-off-the-defense, as Randy Moss would say. Gordon could come in and play the opposite side of Hill, opening the offense up to new heights.

If Gordon has the energy, he could also serve as a decoy or give Hill a breather which could pay off for the Chiefs in the long run as well. All Gordon needs is for the ball to be thrown his way because he has the leaping ability to out-jump most defensive backs.

Mahomes’s New Secret Weapon

Mahomes had this to say about Josh Gordon on Wednesday. “Everywhere he’s been, he’s kind of dominated. He can make plays in one-on-one coverage. He’s a big receiver. Even if he’s covered, he’s not covered. You can kind of throw it up there and he can make plays. I’m sure they’ll incorporate him with a couple of roles in the offense as the season goes on, as we get him up to speed, and we’ll see where that takes us. He’ll have his role. He’s a great football player. But in this offense, everybody gets a chance to make plays.”

As long as Mahomes does not show off too much with no-look passes, he should bounce back and get back to winning ball games. Especially with his new secret weapon.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

The addition of Josh Gordon to this already loaded Chiefs offense adds intrigue to take-the-top-off-the-defense, as Randy Moss would say.

[16,54
7811,507,7326
post-122410","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-chiefs","category-editorials","tag-chiefs-featured","tag-josh-gordon","tag-kansas-city-chiefs-roster
["GET
