A key to the Jets loss in the mile-high city was the poor play of their receiving corps. The Jets receivers dropped Week 3 for Gang Green to fall to 0-3 on the young season.

Failed Offensive Air Attack Dooms Jets in Week 3

In Week 3, quarterback Zach Wilson only completed 19 of his 35 attempts for 160 yards and one interception. Wilson was scrambling to avoid a constant pass rush while attempting many of his passes. Wilson never really got into any semblance of a rhythm and did throw many catchable balls that were simply dropped or deflected into interceptions.

Corey Davis

Wide receiver Corey Davis has been struggling since being picked up in free agency by the Jets. In Sunday’s matchup against the Broncos, Davis caught five of his ten targets for 41 yards with one interception thrown while targeting him. One key drop came in the second quarter when he dropped a catchable pass by the sideline on a third down. The drop ultimately ended the drive. Another key drop came in the third quarter as Davis was running a slant route across the middle of the field. Wilson placed the throw on his back shoulder to help avoid a major hit by the oncoming safety. The pass was easily catchable but dropped yet again.

Braxton Berrios

To this point, Braxton Berrios had looked like one of the only stable wide receivers for the Jets. Berrios caught two passes out of his three targets for 26 yards. The only dropped pass that Berrios had come late in the game and led to an interception. Berrios was running a mid-comeback timing route. Wilson timed the pass perfectly and the ball was on top of Berrios as he hit his cutback. The ball glanced off Berrios’ hands and landed perfectly into the Broncos defensive back’s arms for the interception.

Ty Johnson

The Jets attempted to work running back Ty Johnson into the passing game as well. Johnson was targeted five times and caught only one pass for six yards. None of Johnson’s drops led to turnovers, but all drops in a 26-0 loss are critical.

The Tight Ends

The only individuals and groups to not fail in the passing game were Gang green’s pair of tight ends. Ryan Griffin and Tyler Kroft combined for three targets and three receptions for a total of 17 yards. This stat line doesn’t jump off the page, but the zero drops are the key. The play of the tight ends needs to continue and might give the Jets some confidence to build on the offensive side of the ball.

New York’s pass-catchers will have a chance to redeem themselves this week against a subpar Tennessee secondary. Wilson has struggled thus far in the season but also hasn’t gotten much help from his skill players. One thing is for certain, the Jets receivers dropped Week 3 and need to improve quickly to salvage their season.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

New York Jets Receivers Dropped Week 3 in 26-0 Blowout Loss to the Denver Broncos to fall to 0-3 on the season.

[6,54
3922,1682,7748,218,40,5694
post-122255","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-jets","category-editorials","tag-braxton-berrios","tag-corey-davis","tag-jets-featured","tag-new-york-jets","tag-nfl","tag-ty-johnson
["GET
