News broke Thursday evening that the Jacksonville Jaguars would trade the linebacker to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The full details of the trade are unknown at this time. However, the Jaguars signed Schobert before the 2020 season. He had a five-year, $53 million deal. The Jags will reportedly retain some of his salary.

The #Jaguars have agreed to trade veteran LB Joe Schobert to the #Steelers, source said.

First on the story: @meganschobert, who probably has pretty good sources herself.

— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) August 12, 2021

Jacksonville Jaguars Trade Joe Schobert to the Pittsburgh Steelers

As you can see in the above tweet, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network credited none other than Schobert’s wife for being the first on the story. Megan Schobert is active on social media and gave her followers a subtle tip that a move was coming. Schobert spent one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Prior to last year, Schobert spent four seasons with the Cleveland Browns. So, this move brings Schobert back to the AFC North, but for a rival team.

In the 2020 season, Schobert was very active. He played middle linebacker for practically every defensive snap. According to Pro Football Reference, Schobert played 1109 snaps, or 99% of the Jags’ defensive plays last season. He tallied 141 total tackles (84 solo), six tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, four passes defensed, three interceptions, and one touchdown. He may not be a scheme fit for the new-look Jaguars, but the man can play.

Schobert played his first four seasons with the Browns. He missed three games his third season, but has played in all 16 each of his other four seasons. Schobert only started in four games his rookie season of 2016. However, he would go on to be a starter in his sophomore campaign. In 2017, Schobert wracked up 144 combined tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles, four passes defensed and one interception. He earned Pro Bowl honors for his accomplishments that season.

Schobert is a big contributor on defense and looks to join Devin Bush and T.J. Mike Tomlin and the Steelers will have an even stronger linebacker corps.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

The Jacksonville Jaguars are trading Joe Schobert to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
