According to the latest NFL rumors, Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills might have to wait a while before agreeing to a contract extension. In other news, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is reportedly having a fantastic training camp, while Julio Jones suffered an injury during practice.

NFL Rumors: Josh Allen, Tua Tagovailoa, Julio Jones

Josh Allen Contract Update

At some point in time, the Buffalo Bills will hand out a massive contract extension to Josh Allen. The timing of that contract, however, is up in the air. The two sides have been trying to reach an agreement throughout the offseason, but general manager Brandon Beane said that the team will “probably put a deadline on [contract talks] at some point in the preseason.”

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Allen’s time in Buffalo is coming to a close. The quarterback is still under contract for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, and the Bills could use the franchise tag to keep him around in 2023 and 2024. Beane still wants Allen around for the long haul, and the general manager even said that the team will “pick [contract talks] up as soon as we get to next offseason”.

[pickup_prop id=”6221″]

Allen is one of three quarterbacks from the 2018 NFL Draft class currently staring down a contract extension. Lamar Jackson and Baker Mayfield are also set to get paid, creating something of a contract logjam. Seeing as each quarterback once had a claim to being the best passer of their class, it will be interesting to see how this situation works out.

Tua Tagovailoa Impressing Teammates In Camp

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had a rough rookie season. Taking over for Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Alabama product finished his rookie season completing 64.1% of his passes for 1,814 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions while posting an 87.1 passer rating and a 52.5 QBR. The results weren’t great, but early signs indicate that Tagovailoa is making the fabled Year 2 leap.

Speaking to reporters, head coach Brian Flores said that Tagovailoa is “off to a good start”, and several teammates echoed that sentiment. Safety Eric Rowe said that Miami is opening up the playbook and “allowing him the opportunity to throw it deep.”

Tua is really showing a mastery of this offense I didn’t expect at this point. Ball is out quick, it’s accurate and out in perfect spot for WR often

— Omar Kelly (@OmarKelly) August 2, 2021

Tagovailoa was not good as a rookie, but you can easily explain away most of his shortcomings. The Alabama product suffered a nasty injury while still in college and spent the majority of the offseason rehabbing from said injury. This, combined with a shortened offseason, never gave him a true chance to shine as a rookie.

Julio Jones Suffers Injury, Mike Vrabel Unconcerned

The Tennessee Titans’ newest offensive toy reportedly suffered an injury during Monday’s practices. According to Ben Arthur of the Tennessee Times, Jones landed awkwardly during a red-zone drill. The receiver then left the field and did not return to practice. Fortunately, the Titans appear to have avoided disaster, as head coach Mike Vrabel said that Jones is ok. According to the head coach, the training staff wanted Jones to go inside, and Vrabel said that Jones already had enough team reps for the day.

In a normal offseason, the Julio Jones trade would probably be the highlight of the summer. After requesting a trade early in the offseason, the Falcons ultimately complied and dealt the former first-round pick to Tennessee for a second-round pick. Jones battled injury throughout 2020 but was one of the NFL’s most effective receivers when on the field. If he can stay healthy, Jones and A.J. Brown have a case for being the most dangerous wide receiver group in the league.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

With training camp in full force, news and rumors around the league are becoming more and more prevalent.
