Atlanta Falcons linebacker Barkevious Mingo<\/a> was arrested this past week in Texas on one charge of indecency with a child – sexual conduct.<\/p>\n

Barkevious Mingo Arrested for ‘Indecency w\/Child, Sexual Contact’<\/h2>\n

According to the Arlington Police Department, Mingo’s arrest was at 9:46 PM on Thursday, July 8th<\/sup> in Tarrant County. Indecency with a child – sexual conduct is a 2nd-degree felony charge. If convicted, he could be facing a penalty of up to 20 years in prison under Texas State Law. He would also need to register as a sexual offender, according to some sources.\u00a0 Mingo had turned himself in after consulting with his attorney and will need to post a $25,000 bond. This is according to the Arlington Police Department.<\/p>\n

Mingo’s attorney, Lukas Garcia, has gone on to call the charge on his client \u201ccompletely baseless\u201d and “completely untrue”. Garcia goes on to state that these claims are from \u201ctwo years ago\u201d and Mingo is a victim of a \u201cfalse claim\u201d. Garcia does not stop there as he goes on to say that “money or some other ulterior motives” are the reasons for the allegations.<\/p>\n

Falcons Release Statement on Mingo<\/h3>\n

The Atlanta Falcons<\/a> issued a statement<\/a> saying that the organization \u201cbecame aware of the allegations involving Mingo today and are currently gathering information on this incident\u201d. The Falcons also iterated that they \u201ctake the allegations very seriously and will continue to monitor the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mingo signed a one-year contract with the\u00a0Falcons in March to be an edge rusher. Before then, he was a former top ten pick by the Cleveland Browns<\/a>. Moreover, Mingo has earned the journeyman status, playing for five teams the previous five years. All coming since being drafted in the top ten by the Cleveland Browns<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mingo’s bond was posted on Friday, as he since has been released from custody.\u00a0Due to the nature of the incident, there is no further information.<\/p>\n
