We are just hours away from the 2021 NFL draft which will take place in Cleveland Ohio. Many, many, articles<\/a> have been written about the prospects who will be available in this year’s draft. Along with that, many have broken down which positions teams will be looking to replenish. Of course, to go along with those, are the mock drafts. Today, we take a look around the internet to see who is projecting which players for the Green Bay Packers first round pick.<\/p>\n

Projections for the Green Bay Packers First Round Pick in the 2021 NFL Draft<\/h2>\n

There have been many different opinions on who will hear their name called with the Packers first-round pick. We made our prediction<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n

In our seven-round mock draft<\/a>, we predicted that the Packers would select offensive tackle, Alex Leatherwood<\/a>. With the Packers in need of some young talent at offensive tackle, we thought Leatherwood would be a perfect fit.<\/p>\n

Today, we take a look at six other projections for the Packers first-round pick. There are some interesting names. All players who could bolster the Packers roster.<\/p>\n

Dave Sinykin, Host of “Packer Preview”<\/h4>\n

The long-time host of “Packer Preview” on KFAN, the flagship station of the Minnesota Vikings<\/a>, went secondary with his prediction. Sinykin projected<\/a> cornerback Caleb Farley<\/a> with the Packers first-round pick. On his blog, theheadcheese.com, Sinykin stated that with Farley’s size, 6’2″, “that he’s a nice complement to the vertically challenged Jaire Alexander.”\u00a0Questions about Farley’s health might make him available when the Packers are on the clock.<\/p>\n

Bucky Brooks, NFL.com<\/h4>\n

Bucky Brooks is a former Packer, as well as a former NFL scout. He brings the point of view as a former player but most importantly, a former talent evaluator. Brooks projected<\/a> Michigan offensive tackle Jalen Mayfield<\/a> with the Packers first-round pick. He made a very convincing argument on why Mayfield makes sense for the Packers.<\/p>\n

“The Packers\u2019 lack of depth on the front line was exposed during the playoffs. Mayfield is a natural right tackle with the potential to play inside or outside at the next level.”<\/p>\n

Pete Prisco, CBSSports.com<\/h4>\n

Prisco of CBSSports.com is projecting a name that hasn’t been seen in many mock drafts.<\/p>\n

His projection<\/a> for the Packers first-round pick is center Creed Humphrey<\/a> from the University of Oklahoma. The Packers lost their All-Pro center, Corey Linsley<\/a> to\u00a0the Los Angeles Chargers<\/a> this off-season. Humphrey would be expected to be Linsley’s replacement.<\/p>\n

It would be a surprise if Humphrey is the first center selected in this year’s draft. Landon Dickerson<\/a> of Alabama, on most prospect lists, is rated higher than Dickerson. However, Humphrey would fill a need for the Packers.<\/p>\n

WalterFootball.com<\/h4>\n

Cornerback has been a popular position in mock drafts for the Packers. Walterfootball.com believes that cornerback is the position that Brian Gutekunst will focus on with their first pick.<\/p>\n

They have Northwestern’s Greg Newsome II<\/a> projected<\/a> with the Packers first-round pick. Newsome has good size and could be the possible replacement for oft-injured Packers cornerback Kevin King<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Peter King, NBCSports.com<\/h4>\n

Peter King is a long-time NFL writer. He spent many years with Sports Illustrated before switching to NBCSports.com.<\/p>\n

King has many sources in the NFL, which should give him some insight on who the Packers might select. His projection<\/a> for the Packers first-round pick is linebacker Jamin Davis<\/a> from Kentucky.<\/p>\n

If this were to come true, it would delight many Packers fans. The Packers have been in need of a playmaking inside linebacker for years. While there are some Packers podcasters that have the belief inside linebacker isn’t important, we strongly disagree.<\/p>\n

The Packers defense has struggled for quite a while. One of the consists has been poor inside linebacker play. The selection of Davis would help correct this issue.<\/p>\n

As of right now, the Packers top inside linebacker is Krys Barnes<\/a>. Barnes was an undrafted free agent last season. He also dealt with several injuries. The selection of Davis would be an upgrade over Barnes.<\/p>\n

Brian Sampson, DairylandExpress.com<\/h4>\n

Brian Sampson of DairylandExpress.com is projecting that the Packers trade up in the first round. Many would expect that if they do that, they would target a cornerback. Sampson believes that won’t be the case.<\/p>\n

With Sampson’s projection<\/a>, he has the Packers trading with the Indianapolis Colts<\/a> and selecting Christian Barmore<\/a>, a defensive lineman from Alabama.<\/p>\n

The Packers are in need of depth on the defensive line. Kenny Clark<\/a> is their standout and the Packers are high on Kingsley Keke<\/a>. But the Packers need more talent. Barmore would be an upgrade over current Packers defensive linemen Dean Lowry<\/a> and Tyler Lancaster<\/a>.<\/p>\n
