But due to academic issues and Coxie suffering a torn meniscus during the 2015 track season, LSU pulled their offer. He also received offers from Florida and Alabama.

Damonte Coxie ending up attending Memphis University and redshirted his first season in order to make sure his academics were where they needed to be. But once he saw the field he proved what he is capable of and was almost the program’s all-time leader in receptions. Due to deciding to opt out for the remainder of the 2020 season after playing in only two games in he came up short of that achievement. For his collegiate career Coxie amassed 185 receptions for 2,948 yards and 20 touchdowns, while averaging 15.9 yards per catch. His two best seasons came in 2018 and 2019. In 2018 he had 72 catches for 1,174 yards and seven touchdowns, while averaging 16.3 yards per reception. In 2019 Coxie had his best season with 76 receptions for 1,276 yards and nine touchdowns, while averaging 16.8 yards per catch.

Strengths

Size

Physicality

Ball skills

Makes contested catches

Great body control

Good at selling double moves

Will work back to underthrown passes

Competitive toughness

Long wingspan/catch radius

Return/special teams experience

Weaknesses

Below average athleticism

Limited route tree

Lacks separation quickness

Lacks explosiveness

Thin frame

Below average play strength

Doesn’t possess top-end speed

NFL Comparison: A.J. However, the tape does show that he is capable of being a productive receiver. In addition, while he didn’t excel at returning punts or kicks, he did both at Memphis. Him having special teams experience, even if he wasn’t excellent in college, could allow him an opportunity to see playing time while he finds his footing as a receiver in the NFL. Coxie may not be the most athletic or fastest wide receiver in this year’s draft, but he is capable of stretching the field vertically and he was extremely productive while at Memphis. If a team is able to select him on Day 3 they may very well be happy they did.

More 2021 NFL Draft Profiles

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Damonte Coxie 2021 NFL Draft profile.
