Perhaps not the greatest physical specimen, but his high-IQ and combative style of play could persuade the right team. Boron was a three-star recruit out of Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Hills, MI. According to his recruiting profile, Missouri was the only school to offer him a scholarship. Kicking from guard in high school to tackle in college, the big-bodied blocker found a solid landing spot. While he was redshirted during this first year, he became a starter on the line as a redshirt freshman. From there, he was the team’s starting right tackle until entering the NFL Draft in 2021.

Borom isn’t the most polished blocker in this year’s class. However, his physicality and solid speed provide teams with a solid foundation. Further, he played in a Missouri offense that asked him to block in a lot of different styles. Given their varied playbook full of gadget runs and short passing designs, his assignments included a lot of movement. At the professional level, that adaptability to different blocking concepts will certainly benefit Borom and his landing spot. Granted, Borom has a lot of work to do to improve his technique. As he attempts to make the professional leap, its the fundamentals that could have him sliding on draft boards. Still, he has enough to give teams a reason to believe in his potential.

Strengths

Shows the ability to move on the line

Gets his hands inside the numbers to jam defenders

Good footwork as a pass blocker

Embarrasses the contact and physicality in the run game

Ability to execute a variety of blocking sets and schemes

Looks for ways to finish blocks and get defenders on the ground

Put in solid performances against top conference opponents

Weaknesses

Doesn’t really fire out of his stance on the snap

Struggles to read blitzes and stunts

Hand placement isn’t very consistent

Setting the edge doesn’t seem to be a comfortable task for him

Occasionally lunges at defenders and winds up on the ground

Playing speed needs to increase at the professional level

NFL Comparison: Mark Glowinski

Teams With Need at Position: Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Football Team, Pittsburgh Steelers

Projection: Sixth Round

Bottom Line on Larry Borom

Likely to be a Day 3 pick in this year’s draft, Larry Borom has some good upside with some true concerns in certain areas. Still, using a lesser draft investment on Borom could ultimately prove to be a worthy investment. His on-field intelligence and versatility are quite appealing and development could make him a flexible depth piece. He has the size to compete and tackle and speed to kick in to guard. If he can find a way to round out some flaws, he’s potentially a smart depth investment. However, it’s worth noting that Borom could use a year or two on the practice squad. Getting reps on the scout team will only benefit the blocker in the long term. With a solid frame and knowledge of the game, Borom should be able to find a late-round landing spot.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Joining a deep class of tackles in the 2021 NFL Draft class, Larry Borom provides some impressive physicality and versatility.

[1647,33760
8164,2030
post-111784","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-draft","category-profiles","tag-larry-borom","tag-nfl-draft-profiles
["GET
