With the 2021 NFL Draft beginning on Thursday night, everyone recalls the fantasy football ripple effect with the Chiefs selection of Edwards-Helaire in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. While he failed to justify last year&#8217;s lofty redraft ADP, Edwards-Helaire presents savvy fantasy drafters with a golden opportunity in 2021.<\/p>\n<h2>Buy Clyde Edwards-Helaire in Fantasy Football<\/h2>\n<h3>Edwards-Helaire Rookie Fantasy Numbers<\/h3>\n<p>When the Chiefs selected Edwards-Helaire with the 32nd pick in last year&#8217;s draft, the fantasy community not only touted the Kansas City rookie as a first-round fantasy pick but worthy of the overall first redraft selection.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Chiefs?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Chiefs<\/a> RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire should  be the first overall pick in fantasy drafts this season. I have had some success with taking rookie RB\u2019s 1st overall in the draft in the past \ud83e\udd14 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/saquon?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@saquon<\/a> \u270c\ud83c\udffe<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Louis Riddick (@LRiddickESPN) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LRiddickESPN\/status\/1292528072214945793?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">August 9, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>That was a clear case of hyperbole, except Edwards-Helaire&#8217;s season wasn&#8217;t as bad as most think. Due to his high ankle and hip strains, he only played 13 games for the Chiefs. Edwards-Helaire averaged 4.2 targets per game, ranking 14th at the position. When given the opportunity to rush the football, he produced as a high-end RB1, with three games as the overall RB10 or better.<\/p>\n<p>Per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playerprofiler.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PlayerProfiler<\/a>, Edwards-Helaire&#8217;s 4.3 true yards per carry only ranked 28th among all running backs. His 5.1 yards per touch was only slightly better at 25th overall. With these moderate rankings, one questions as to where the majority of the blame be placed for his inefficiency?<\/p>\n<h3>Offensive Line Trouble<\/h3>\n<p>In 2020, Kansas City ranked fifth overall with a 62.6% offensive pass percentage. Most will remember the poor pass blocking display in Super Bowl LV when quarterback Patrick Mahomes was constantly under pressure. Nevertheless, for the majority of the season, Kansas City&#8217;s offensive line was actually worse at run-blocking than pass-blocking. The Chiefs ranked sixth in pass block win rate but just 31st in run block win rate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/29939464\/2020-nfl-pass-rushing-run-stopping-blocking-leaderboard-win-rate-rankings\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">per ESPN<\/a>. It is also worth noting starting right tackle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SchwMi00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mitchell Schwartz<\/a> missed every game after Week 6 due to a back injury.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Kansas City prioritized improving their offensive line this off-season, starting with releasing both their starting offensive tackles. Then, the Chiefs signed former New England guard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/ThunJo00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Thuney<\/a> to a five-year, $80-million deal. Since his rookie year, Thuney has started every single game. He is graded among the best run blockers in the league and has the second-lowest run-blown block rate among guards per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsinfosolutions.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sports Info Solutions.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Chiefs also just completed a huge trade with Baltimore for two-time Pro Bowl tackle Orlando Brown Jr.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Kansas City gets:<br \/>\ud83c\udfc8 OT Orlando Brown<br \/>\ud83c\udfc8 2021 second-round pick (No. 58)<br \/>\ud83c\udfc8 2022 6th round pick.<\/p>\n<p>Baltimore gets:<br \/>\ud83c\udfc8 2021 first-round pick (No. 31)<br \/>\ud83c\udfc8 third-round pick (No. 94)<br \/>\ud83c\udfc8 fourth-round pick (No. 136)<br \/>\ud83c\udfc8 2022 fifth-round pick<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/1385670034110959630?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">April 23, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Kansas City also coaxed 32-year old guard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LongKy00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyle Long<\/a> out of retirement on a one-year, $1.1 million deal filled with incentives. Long is a former three-time Pro Bowl linemen capable of playing both guard and tackle. He will now join Thuney, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DuveLa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Laurent Duvernay-Tardif<\/a>, who returns after opting out of last season, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WyliAn00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andrew Wylie<\/a> along the interior. Now, the Chiefs have a much improved and deeper offensive line depth chart for 2021.<\/p>\n<h3>Vacated Opportunities<\/h3>\n<p>At the same time, the Chiefs have 66 vacated carries with the departures of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BellLe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Le&#8217;Veon Bell<\/a> (63) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WashDe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DeAndre Washingto<\/a>n (3). The presence of both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WillDa10.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Darrel Williams<\/a> (39 carries) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/ThomDa06.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Darwin Thompson<\/a> (27 carries) should provide little concern for Edwards-Helaire, who saw 181 carries in his first NFL season. That is likely to experience positive regression in the explosion Chiefs offense in 2021.<\/p>\n<h3>Fantasy Outlook<\/h3>\n<p>Edwards-Helaire is primed to outperform his suppressed ADP. Per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.footballdiehards.com\/adp\/best-ball-fantasy-football-average-draft-position.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FootballOutsiders<\/a> Best Ball ADP, he is currently going as RB15 and in <a href=\"https:\/\/establishtherun.com\/average-draft-position-best-ball\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FFPC Classic Best Ball<\/a> leagues, Edwards-Helaire is going two spots behind fellow 2020 NFL Draft pick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DobbJK00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">J.K.
