The 2021 NFL Draft should be no different. Players such as Cameron Sample, who should be a third-round selection, will provide plenty of starting depth for teams in the subsequent years.

Born in Snellville, Georgia, Sample attended Shiloh High School where he completed 104 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, four sacks, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He was a three-year letterman and received Class 8A all-region honors. Rivals.com rated Sample a three-star prospect while 247Sports.com rated him a two-star prospect. He committed to Tulane University with a major in finance.

During his freshman season. Sample completed 15 solo tackles and 11 assisted tackles with one pass defended. He finished ninth on the team in tackles and a season-high four solo tackles and six total tackles against Army West Point. He was a member of the 2017-18 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team as well as the Tulane 3.0 Club. In his sophomore year, Sample had 17 solo and 23 assisted tackles with one pass defended and four sacks. He had a season-high nine tackles in a game against Ohio State.

In his junior year, Sample completed 30 solo and 14 assisted tackles with four passes defended and one and a half sacks. He also had eight carries of 40 yards. Sample was second among all defensive linemen with a single-season career-high 44 tackles. During his senior year, Sample had 29 solo and 23 assisted tackles with one pass defended, one forced fumble, and five sacks. He was named first-team AAC selection and accepted an invitation to the Reese’s Senior Bowl. He also was named the American Athletic Defensive Player of the Week and to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll.

During his pro day, Sample’s hands measured in at nine and three-fourths, his arm at 33 and three-eights, and his wingspan at 79 and three-eighths. He completed the 40-yard dash in 4.83, the 20-yard dash in 2.77, and the 10-yard dash in 1.68. He completed 23 reps on the 225 lb bench, a vertical jump of 37, and a broad jump of 09″08. Finally, Sample completed the 20-yard Shuttle in 4.51 and the Three-Cone Drill in 7.40.

Strengths

Athletic;

Good quickness and speed;

Versatility to play many defensive positions;

Physical, aggressive, and mean;

Has good leverage to disrupt plays.

Weaknesses

Lacks size;

Sometimes gets outmaneuvered by opponents;

Doesn’t have much length;

Can his skills translate to the next level?

Lacks lower body fluidity.

Player Comparison: Dante Fowler

Teams With Need At Position: Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons

Draft Projection: Third Round

Bottom Line on Cameron Sample

Sample is a very versatile defensive end that can be used in a multitude of situations. His athleticism and aggressiveness allow him to beat linemen, or give them problems. His lack of size; however, might be an issue at the next level as gaining more weight would compromise his athleticism. Sample has shown starter potential and, given the right development, can be a swiss army knife on defense.

More 2021 NFL Draft Profiles

[pickup_prop id=”3938″]

Mainp photo:
Embed from Getty Images

After having a very successful career at Tulane Univesity, Cameron Sample is looking to continue his progress at the 2021 NFL Entry Draft.

[1647,33760
8039,2030
post-111341","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-draft","category-profiles","tag-cameron-sample","tag-nfl-draft-profiles
["GET
