The future Hall of Famer is entering his age-38 season, so time is definitely of the essence. Green Bay’s front office has not done much in free agency to build the team, but that could be changing in the coming weeks. According to rumors originating from ESPN, the Packers are waiting to re-work Aaron Rodgers contract before making any major moves.

[pickup_prop id=”5655″]

NFL Rumors: Aaron Rodgers Contract Delaying Free Agent Moves

While speaking to an anonymous agent, ESPN’s Rob Demovsky broached the topic of what the Packers are doing to support Aaron Rodgers in the offseason. Green Bay currently has just $2.57 million in available cap space, meaning that they don’t currently have the resources to go after any of the bigger names on the market. However, according to the agent, the Packers will be more active if and when Green Bay addresses Rodgers’ contract. The agent said that a team spokesman told him that the team simply won’t have any spending money until the organization gets “something big done”.

Now, this isn’t direct information, so some of this should be taken with a grain of salt. However, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that “something big” refers to Aaron Rodgers and his massive contract. The quarterback is currently on the books for $37.2 million, but Green Bay could dramatically reduce that number by converting some of his guaranteed money into a signing bonus.

Doing this, however, will increase Rodgers’ cap hit down the line, which means that they might be stuck with Rodgers if he starts to decline. Green Bay clearly doesn’t want to be on the hook for that eventuality, as they drafted Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. From the outside looking in, it appears as though the Packers are debating whether it’s worth going all-in for one or two more seasons with Rodgers, or if they should keep their future open for Jordan Love.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

According to NFL rumors originating from ESPN, the Green Bay Packers won’t make free agent moves until they address Aaron Rodgers contract

[25
275,44
post-109861","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-packers","tag-aaron-rodgers","tag-green-bay-packers
["GET
