The Seahawks have a limited number of picks this year because of a few trades they made last off-season. The Seahawks will have only three draft picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, but they need to improve in various areas, including offensive line, running back, and cornerback. Here are some Seattle Seahawks 2021 NFL Draft targets.

[pickup_prop id=”3859″]

Seattle Seahawks 2021 NFL Draft and Players To Target

Quinn Meinerz, Offensive Line, Wisconsin-Whitewater

The 320-pound lineman came into the Senior Bowl with a fairly low draft stock. But Quinn Meinerz shocked everyone during the week and game and now his draft stock has skyrocketed. The Seahawks are in need of offensive linemen because of expiring contracts and the age of Pro Bowl left tackle Duane Brown. Building through the draft may be the path for the Seahawks, especially after they hit on right guard Damien Lewis in the third round last year.

Ethan Pocic struggled at the end of the season and a guy like Meinerz could come in year one and fill the void if the Seahawks choose not to bring back Pocic. The Seahawks could probably pick him up with with their fourth-round pick. The Seahawks offensive line ranked 14th by PFF in 2020, despite giving up 47 sacks.

Deonte Brown, Offensive Line, Alabama

If you want to see a grown man, then look at the monster guard out of Alabama. Deonte Brown weighs in at over 360-pounds and uses every bit of it on the field. While he was at Alabama, he did not allow a single sack in the 48 career games in which he played. Drafting Brown could be a huge boost for a Seahawks team that has not been able to protect Russell Wilson for the majority of his career. Wilson has been sacked at least 40 times for eight straight seasons. The only year he didn’t get sacked more than 40 times was in his rookie season.

The Seahawks have a second-round pick this season and selecting Brown with that pick could be a steal. Potentially having Brown and Lewis as their starting guards would provide the physicality that the Seahawks have been searching for. With Duane Brown at left tackle, this would potentially give Wilson his best offensive line since 2012. Head coach Pete Carroll also wants to run the football a little more and Brown could help improve that as well.

Running Backs Trey Sermon, Ohio State and Chubba Hubbard, Oklahoma State

The Seahawks may be looking at running backs during the draft with Chris Carson‘s future being uncertain. Carson is set to be a free agent this off-season, as is Carlos Hyde. With Rashaad Penny‘s injury history, there isn’t a lot of stability in the backfield in Seattle. Ohio State running back Trey Sermon would fit Carroll’s style of a big and physical runner. He showed out in the Big Ten Championship against Northwestern and in the Semifinals of the College Football Playoff against Clemson. He rushed for over 190 yards in each of those games, including 331 yards against Northwestern. He proved he can carry the bulk of the carries against stiff competition.

Another prospect the Seahawks could look at his Oklahoma State’s Chubba Hubbard. He had an amazing career in Stillwater. He ran for over 3,400 yards and 33 touchdowns while at Oklahoma State, including a 2,094 yard season in 2019. Hubbard proved he can be a work horse and get chunk plays. He averaged close to six yards per carry in his three seasons at the school. The one red flag about him is ball security. He had 11 fumbles in his career, although he only lost two of them. If he cleans that up, he would be a good fit for the Seahawks.

Shaun Wade, Cornerback, Ohio State

This one may come as a surprise for many. Shaun Wade struggled at times during the 2020 season but his upside is too good to look over. He was once a first-round prospect but his struggles this season probably dropped him to a day-two pick. The Seahawks need some cornerback help with both Shaquill Griffin and Quinton Dunbar set to enter free agency this off-season. If the Seahawks don’t re-sign either them, this route may be one they take. Wade is a taller corner at six-foot-two. That is the type of corner that Carroll likes to have on the roster, and the Seahawks are one of the best teams at getting the best out of later draft picks.

Last Word

These are just a few of the potential Seattle Seahawks 2021 NFL Draft targets. They could also trade their second-round pick and possibly add some more picks in an effort to try to fill the holes on their team.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Seattle Seahawks 2021 NFL Draft players to target.
