He also knew the time was now, given the team needed players to step up with Brandin Cooks having been traded. Everett went onto once again to have career-highs in multiple categories. Playing in all 16 games, he made seven starts, totaling 41 receptions and 417 yards. He also was more effective after the reception, averaging 5.9 yards after the catch. All while still splitting tight end duties with Tyler Higbee. It is also worth noting that with his size, Everett is not built like an inline blocking tight end the same way Higbee is.

At 6-3 and 240lbs, Everett has always been a versatile piece in Sean McVay’s offense. He can line up inline, in the slot, out wide, or even in the backfield. As a matter of fact, Everett has five carries for 31 yards and three touchdowns in his career. It is worth noting that in 2018 and 2019, he was a top-ten graded tight end per PFF, however, despite his on-paper numbers improving in 2020, he graded 46th out of 71 qualifying tight ends. Certainly, his first six drops of his career coming this past season did not help his case.

The 2017 second-round pick was a bit of a disappointment for the Rams. Everett was the first pick by McVay, and quickly became overshadowed by Higbee, who was a fourth-round pick in 2016. There is also the slight matter that Everett has not lived up to 44th overall, compared to the production of George Kittle, who was taken at 150. Nonetheless, Everett has continued to improve year after year and receive more snaps too. He will only be 27-years-old in 2021 and has earned another shot to prove himself.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Longtime NFL veteran tight end Gerald Everett is no longer a free agent.
