Allen spent the 2020 season with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/nfl-teams2\/bengals\/\" target=\"_self\">Cincinnati Bengals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Bengals?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Bengals<\/a> are re-signing QB Brandon Allen to a one-year deal, per source. Allen made five starts last season, knows Zac Taylor\u2019s offense well and now returns to back up and help mentor Joe Burrow.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TomPelissero\/status\/1369473731601563648?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">March 10, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Brandon Allen, Cincinnati Bengals, Agree to Contract<\/h2>\n<p>In a still-young career, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AlleBr00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brandon Allen<\/a> is continuing to make his way in the league as a solid depth quarterback. Over his short NFL career, he&#8217;s received numerous starting opportunities in substitution of a team&#8217;s injured starter. Now, he&#8217;s on to his next opportunity as a passer.<\/p>\n<p>This marks the next stage in a career that&#8217;s involved a lot of shuffling for Allen. The 28-year-old passer played his college football at the University of Arkansas, where he was a three-year starter. During his time in college, he won two bowl games; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/game?gameId=400610223\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the 2014 Texas Bowl<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/game?gameId=400852740\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2016 Liberty Bowl<\/a>. He was a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/category\/nfl-teams\/jaguars\/\" target=\"_self\">Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a>. However, that stay with the Jaguars wasn&#8217;t good enough to stick and Allen found himself waved after one season.<\/p>\n<p>After being selected by Jacksonville, Allen bounced between a few different teams as a member of their practice squad. He spent 2017 and 2018 as a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/category\/nfl-teams\/rams\/\" target=\"_self\">Los Angeles Rams<\/a> quarterback room. Then, he received his first in-game opportunity as a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/category\/nfl-teams\/broncos\/\" target=\"_self\">Denver Broncos<\/a> in 2019. He made three starts for Denver, throwing for 515 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions, earning a win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/category\/nfl-teams\/browns\/\" target=\"_self\">Cleveland Browns<\/a> along the way.<\/p>\n<p>This season, Allen started the season as the COVID-19 reserve quarterback for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/category\/nfl-teams\/bengals\/\" target=\"_self\">Cincinnati Bengals<\/a>. However, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BurrJo01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Burrow<\/a> went down<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/bengals-rookie-qb-joe-burrow-undergoes-successful-knee-surgery\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> with a major injury<\/a>, it forced Allen to make five starts. Allen had one big game last year for the Bengals. In Week 16 win on the road over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/category\/nfl-teams\/texans\/\" target=\"_self\">Houston Texans<\/a>, he passed for 371 yards, 2 touchdowns, and completed 78.2% of his tosses. That performance netted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bengals.com\/news\/bengals-brandon-allen-named-the-fedex-air-player-of-week-16\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">him FedEx Air Player of the Week honors<\/a>.
