With Philip Rivers departing the Chargers in the 2020 off-season, Taylor ended up becoming the Week 1 starter even with first-round rookie Justin Herbert available. However, after only one start (with 208 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions), he got injured just before the Week 2 game in a bizarre medical snafu where the Chargers team doctor accidentally punctured his lung. Herbert was forced into action but ended up playing so well that Taylor never got his job back even when healthy. He only made one more appearance, and that was on a failed two-point conversion attempt in Week 9 when Herbert got briefly shaken up.

Taylor was drafted in 2011 by the Baltimore Ravens, where he spent four years riding the bench behind Joe Flacco without getting a single start and only getting significant playing time in one Week 17 game in 2012.

Taylor signed with the Buffalo Bills in 2015 and spent the next three years there. His first season there saw him get his lone Pro Bowl berth so far after passing for 20 touchdowns and six interceptions, plus four rushing touchdowns. In 2017, he helped lead the Bills to their first playoff berth since 1999 at 9-7. They went one and done in the playoffs, and Taylor was ultimately not retained by the Bills.

Taylor then signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2018, where he was initially named the starter but was injured and ultimately benched in Week 3 for Baker Mayfield (similar to what happened with him and Herbert in 2020). He signed with the Chargers in 2019, and spent that season behind Philip Rivers, though he did throw a touchdown in garbage time during a blowout.

Taylor so far in his career has 9,770 passing yards with 54 touchdowns, 20 interceptions, and 16 rushing touchdowns.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Tyrod Taylor only started one game for the Chargers before getting injured and ultimately replaced by the rookie Justin Herbert.

[36,14
7377,1608,570
post-102253","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-news","category-texans","tag-los-angeles-chargers-roster","tag-nfl-free-agency","tag-tyrod-taylor
["GET
