That low-risk move paid off, as Darby played in all 16 games for one of the NFL’s better defenses. While he didn’t record an interception, Darby still managed to break up 16 passes while recording 55 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and one recovered fumble. According to Pro Football Focus, Darby ended the season as the 31st-best cornerback in football. Interestingly enough, this was the first time that Darby managed to play a full 16-game season.

Darby initially entered the NFL as a second-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Selected by the Buffalo Bills, the Florida State product started and appeared in 15 games as a rookie. During his time on the field, the rookie recorded two interceptions, 68 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, and 21 passes defended. He followed this up with yet another solid season in 2016, recording 69 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and 12 passes defended in 14 games played.

Darby’s tenure in Buffalo came to a premature half, as the Bills traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for wide receiver Jordan Matthews and a third-round pick. While he struggled to stay on the field during his first year in Philadelphia, he still managed to record 34 tackles, nine passes defended, and a career-high three interceptions while on the field. Of course, Darby finished this season with a Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Six-year NFL veteran cornerback Ronald Darby is no longer a free agent.
