Starting and appearing in all 16 games, Thuney ended the season as the 10th-best guard in the league, according to the fine folks over at Pro Football Focus. Thuney is famous for his ability to stay on the field, and this year was no exception. The former third-round pick played in 100% of the snaps in 14 of his 16 games, and only had one game where he failed to play 93% of the snaps. New England had a fantastic run game in 2020, and Thuney’s consistency on the field was a big reason for that success.

Joe Thuney initially entered the NFL as a third-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Selected by the New England Patriots, the Day 2 draft pick immediately stepped into the starting lineup to help solidify what was an underwhelming offensive line. With Thuney’s help, this offensive line transformed into one of the best in the league while helping the Patriots win Super Bowl LI. The North Carolina State product proved that his rookie performance wasn’t a fluke, as he continued to improve while developing into one of the best guards in the NFL.

Amazingly, this was the first year in Joe Thuney’s career that he didn’t make it to the postseason. The superstar guard played in three consecutive Super Bowls to start his career before losing the 2019 AFC Wild Card Round following a 12-4 regular season. Thuney was a big reason for that success, as the interior trio of Thuney, David Andrews, and Shaq Mason was one of the best in the league.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Offensive guard Joe Thuney is no longer a free agent.
