The Houston Texans<\/a> have a new general manager in Nick Caserio<\/strong>, and Deshaun Watson<\/a><\/strong> doesn\u2019t seem too thrilled about the hire. Just hours after the move became official, Watson took to Twitter<\/a> to say \u201csome things never change\u201d. While he didn\u2019t specifically address Caserio in the tweet, it doesn\u2019t take a genius to read between the lines. ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter<\/strong> retweeted Watson, which only adds to the theory that this tweet is about Houston\u2019s recent hire.<\/p>\n

Deshaun Watson on Nick Caserio Hiring: Some Things Never Change<\/h2>\n

Nick Caserio started his career in New England, but has very close ties to the Houston Texans. Back in 2019, the organization attempted to hire him as their general manager. However, New England blocked the move, forcing Houston to give all power to former head coach Bill O\u2019Brien<\/strong>. It stands to reason that Caserio and Watson have crossed paths during this period, and Watson clearly wasn\u2019t impressed with the former New England executive.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Watson could be put off by Caserio\u2019s close ties to the New England Patriots. Both Bill O\u2019Brien and Interim Head Coach Romeo Crennel<\/strong> were fruit of the Bill Belichick Coaching Tree, and there are plenty of horror stories from that era of Texans football. Chances are, Watson isn\u2019t too thrilled about adding yet another Belichick Disciple to the ranks.<\/p>\n

Despite the 4-12 record, Deshaun Watson is coming off arguably the best season of his young career. Starting in all 16 games, Watson completed 70.2% of his passes for a league-leading 4,823 yards, 33 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He finished third in PFF grade, 12th<\/sup> in ESPN\u2019s QBR, and seventh in EPA\/play. He did all this despite losing DeAndre Hopkins<\/strong><\/a> in the offseason and Will Fuller<\/a><\/strong> for the final five games of the season. For the sake of a long-suffering Houston fanbase, hopefully, Deshaun Watson is wrong about Nick Caserio.<\/p>\n
